Albert Watson first came to public attention in 1994, with his first book, Cyclops, which has since become a collector's item. He is considered the eminence grise of top photographers, an intellectual loner who neither respects the boundaries of genre, nor is willing to compromise in matters of his own artistic demands. From advertisements for the fashion and cosmetic industry to portraits of celebrities such as Mick Jagger and Andy Warhol, to nudes, still life and landscapes, Watson's range is as impressive as the aesthetic forcefulness and the emotional intensity of his pictures. His curiosity appears to be as inexhaustible as his reputed chameleon-like changeability and the pleasure he takes in permanently inventing new pictures.

A travers son objectif, Watson dénude ses images pour en distiller l’essence, capturant ainsi d...Exposition Albert Watson : Maroc Kahmann Gallery will show a selection of sublime images of Albert Watson’s (UK, 1942) Moroccan travels, which he made in 1997 and 1998 and published in the book Maroc. An almost impossible task, as Watson says himself: “It is impossible to capture even a fraction of what this great country has to offer in a single book, so what I have made is really a sketch, done over a periode of thirty nine days.” From Casablanca to villages, farms, and remote desert areas, Watson captured the soul of Moroccans from all walks of life in his portraits: “The people are the magic of this country’. Albert Watson started using Polaroid on the back of his Hasselblad in 1972, and in 1984, on the back of his 4x5 Horseman view camera. Since he began, he has taken more than 100,000 Polaroids for a vast array of shoots: for art projects, magazines, ad campaigns and everything in between. Polaroids, especially in the beginning, were simply a way to make sure the camera systems were operating properly and the lighting matched my vision for the photograph. As time went on, Polaroids became more and more important, and sometimes they had their own beauty that transcended their significance as mere tests. Polaroids have a unique color structure ...Exposition La Young Gallery présente la nouvelle exposition d’Albert Watson intitulée « Silver linings »

On Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at 6:30PM, the Fondazione Forma per la Fotografia, will present the opening of the exhibit Fashion. A century of extraordinary photography from the Condé Nast archives.
“We have to make Vogue into a Louvre.”
Edward Steichen to Edna Woodman Chase, 1920s
These words said by Steichen to the first editor in chief of Vogue aptly summarized the revolution started by Condé Nast, both in fashion as well as in photography more generally, when the publisher acquired the prestigious Vogue masthead in 1909. From then on, the story of fashion was no longer told exclusively in delicate nineteenth-century illustrations, but also by great international photographers with creative license. Edward Steichen was one of the first photographer to shoot for Vogue, accepti...Exposition Vintage Photographs « Cyclops » of Albert Watson at Hasted Kraeutler
Hasted Kraeutler is pleased to announce Cyclops, an exhibition of rare, unique vintage photographs by Albert Watson, beginning October 25 and running through December 8, 2012.
The works in this exhibition celebrate the 20th anniversary of Cyclops (Callaway Editions, 1994), which was the first major monograph of the artist's photographs. The title, Cyclops, refers to Albert Watson's single-minded, distinctive style, and a light hearted reference to the fact that he has been blind in one eye since birth.
Cyclops will exhibit unique vintage platinum and silver prints by the artist, spanning 40 years of the photographer's career. One of a kind prints from the original selection for the book will be on view, including Road Kill, a series rarely exhibited.

Beyond the usual process of colorizing black and white prints afterwards colour photography established itself from the 1930s onwards first within fashion and advertisement photography and quickly became an essential tool for the mass media and the entertainment industry.
