This is the second year running that the former Secretary-General of the United Nations has agreed to bestow the prize. Speaking at the 2008 award ceremony Kofi Annan said “Each artist has addressed the environmental and social challenges we face in their own personal way. The result is a series of powerful images, which seek to confront us with the scale of the threat we face, and to inspire governments, business, - and all of us as individuals -to step up to the challenge and support change for a sustainable world..”...Livre « Planches-Contacts » de Giammaria De Gasperis : l'envers du choix des photographies

Taken along the river from its source in remote western China to its mouth just off the shores of Shanghai, these photographs depict the human footprint of habitat and industry that can be seen along the shores of China’s longest river.
Taken over a three-year period, Kander’s Yangtze River photographs speak of a China in the process of radical change, and of man’s futility and subjugation of the natural world in the pursuit of development. Following the course of China’s longest river upstream, Kander created a profound and contemplative body of pictures.

Galerie Edwynn Houk is delighted to exhibit photographs by the London based photographer Nadav Kander’s Yangtze – The Long River. Completed in 2009, Yangtze chronicles several journeys that Kander took over three years, travelling upstream and westwards, from the mouth of the world’s third longest river in Shanghai, to the source in the Sichuan province, 4000 miles away. The series, in its entirety, has been published in a single volume by Hatje Cantz, with an introduction by the former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan.
The blazing pace of development in China, perhaps most clearly seen along the Yangtze, had long fascinated Kander. Entire cities, such as Fengdu, were moved, from one bank to another; with the construction of the Three Gorges Dam, 1.8 mi...Exposition Exhibition "Color" at the CWC Gallery in Berlin
The exhibition Color presents over 100 photographs various positions of artistic color photography and gives with works of path breaking artists like Edward Steichen, Jeanlopu Sieff, Helmut Newton, William Eggleston, Stephen Shore, Jeff Koons up to Nadav Kander, Robert Polidori or Martin Schoeller insights into the development of the handling and the aesthetisication of color within the field of photography,
Beyond the usual process of colorizing black and white prints afterwards colour photography established itself from the 1930s onwards first within fashion and advertisement photography and quickly became an essential tool for the mass media and the entertainment industry. M97 Gallery is pleased to present “Standing at the Water’s Edge”, a Group Exhibition featuring the works of sixteen M97 artists.
Exhibiting more than 30 photographs by 16 artists, "Standing at the Water's Edge" immerses the viewer's perspective in a juxtaposed state between land and water. The boundaries and relationship between these two intrinsically linked yet fundamentally opposed elements of nature encourage our gaze and stimulate our imagination. The water's edge is at once boundary and transition, destination and a point of departure. The bedrock of land acts as foundation and the continuous flow of water depicts the flow of time. From the water’s edge we can seek perspective, enlightment, or to feel the vastness of the universe against the smallness of our bei...Exposition The world is in London

A group exhibition mainly curated from its own collection, displaying more than 40 photographers and their perspectives on mostly female nude art. Selected classics are supplemented with, in some cases, never before exhibited contemporary works of Blaise Reutersward, Nadav Kander, or Ralph Mecke.
The kaleidoscopic exhibition stretches from classical, nearly sculptural studio-stagings, as in the works of Horst P. Horst, Frantisek Drtikol, or Rudolf Koppitz, to the erotic and provocative images of Helmut Newton or Bettina Rheims, and extending to the series of documentary pictures by recently-deceased Larry Sultan, which originated off-set during pornographic shootings.

The exhibition includes work by the twelve international photographers shortlisted for the 2009 prize:
Food riots. Loss of forest cover. Desertification. The ecosystems we depend on appear to face resource demands already beyond their capacity. As governments try urgently to stimulate growth, a central question remains - can the earth’s complex living systems sustain the future consumption patterns of another three billion people in the world’s population by 2050? The selection of works on show attempts to examine the way in which the camera portrait not only provides the individual with a visual memory and reference for the subjects of the portrait but in some rare cases, when reproduced enough times, provides an almost universal human record. The works chosen have been selected not only for the status and influence of the subjects but for the importance of ...Exposition Selected - NADAV KANDER Nadav Kander, who has received numerous international awards, most recently won the prestigious photo prize Prix Pictet, including in the short list, Andreas Gursky, Ed Burtnsky, Ed Kashi among others. Ecotone takes its name from ecology, where it designates an intermediary zone between two natural systems, transient or at odds with each other, characterised by a high density and diversity of species, often unexpected or astray. The term derives from the Greek "oikos" which refers to the habitat and "tonos", meaning tension. Ecotone undoubtedly refers to this ecological dimension, but furthermore, it serves as a receptacle to speak to us more broadly of moments in which ...Exposition Kofi Annan to announce the Prix Pictet 2009 Winner On 22 October at the Passage de Retz gallery in Paris Kofi Annan, Honorary President of the Prix Pictet, will announce the winner of this year’s award. Planning for the exhibition of work by the Prix Pictet Shortlist 2009 is complete and it is clear that that the Jury face a considerable challenge when they sit down to consider this group of images that range from the painterly to the documentary and all points in between – often within a single submission. The power of the shortlisted images was summed up by Stephen Barber when he introduced them at the Rencontres d’Arles. “We are all of us, all too familiar with the great issues of sustainability – climate change, environmental degradation, deforestation – yet how many of us have experienced personally the devastating consequences de...Exposition Kofi Annan annoncera le lauréat du Prix Pictet 2009 le 22 octobre Kofi Annan, Président honoraire du Prix Pictet, annoncera le lauréat de l'édition 2009 le jeudi 22 Octobre au Passage de Retz. L'exposition des photographes nominés pour le Prix Pictet 2009 est prête et il apparaît clairement que les jurés ont relevé un défi de taille lorsqu'ils ont dû sélectionner ces images allant du pictural ou documentaire, souvent au sein d'un même dossier. La force des images choisies est bien résumée par Stephen Barber lorsqu'il les présenta en juillet dernier aux Rencontres d’Arles. “Nous sommes tous familiers des graves problèmes liés au développement durable - le changement climatique, la dégradation de l'environnement, la déforestation - mais malgr...Exposition Group Photography Exhibition - PARALLAX Parallax is the effect whereby the distance between two objects appears to shift when viewed from different vantage points and can help determine an otherwise unknown distance. Following on this concept, the "Parallax" exhibition places together two or more works by each artist from different times in their career. Creating an imaginary sense of distance by juxtaposing photographs of different size, subject matter, and year of creation presents an opportunity for the viewer to see how the artist's focus and technique has developed creatively or conceptually and how the style of their work has changed or remained consistent.
By bringing together photographs from different bodies of work by each artist from different stages in their career, "Parallax" highlights the evolution of each artist's style a...Modifier l'image
