Horst P Horst décède à Long Island en 1999.

Over time the influence of the movement spread far and wide, as evidenced in the inclusion of collages by Japanese a...Exposition Exhibition : « Platinium » at Atlas Gallery Atlas Gallery's press release
A new exhibition at Atlas Gallery will showcase the beauty of the platinum print through the work of diverse international photographers and artists from the early 20th century to the present day.
Platinum-palladium is a traditional printing technique, dating from the 19th century, favoured by photographers and collectors due to the tonal range of the prints. Platinum prints are amongst the most permanent man-made objects – it is thought that a platinum image, properly preserved, can last more than 5000 years.
The painterly quality of the platinum print was embraced by masters of photographer in the early 20th Century such as Edward Steichen and Alfred Stieglitz, who called the process ‘the prince of all media’. This quality, coupled with the tonal depth has le...Exposition Exhibition : « Booth D9 - sélection Paris Photo »

The term “still-life” originated in the 16th century in Netherlands and, by the 17th century, it had emerged as a distinct and specialised genre in Western painting. Many different types of still-life have developed since then, usually addressing the sensual perception of the viewer. Masters of still-life painting intended not only to create a hyper - realistic depiction of the world and to give a deceptively perfect illusion of reality, but to convey an often moral message through their use of certain symbols. For a vanitas theme, still-lifes often appear with aesthetically appealing luxury objects next to representations of mortality such as skulls, sand glasses, faded candles, withered flowers and broken g...Exposition Horst: Photographer of Style Horst P. Horst (1906-99) created images that transcend fashion and time. He was a master of light, composition and atmospheric illusion, who conjured a world of sensual sophistication. In an extraordinary sixty-year career, his photographs graced the pages of Vogue and House and Garden under the one-word photographic byline ‘Horst’. He ranks alongside Irving Penn and Richard Avedon as one of the pre-eminent fashion and portrait photographers of the 20th century.
An international figure, Horst worked predominantly in Paris and New York. Born in Germany, he became an American citizen in 1943, changing his surname from Bohrmann to Horst. His extraordinary range of work outside the photographic studio conveys a relentless visual curiosity and life-long desire for new challenges. The huge collection of prints, ...Exposition FORMA presents "Fashion, A century of extraordinary fashion photography" from the Condé Nast archives
On Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at 6:30PM, the Fondazione Forma per la Fotografia, will present the opening of the exhibit Fashion. A century of extraordinary photography from the Condé Nast archives.
“We have to make Vogue into a Louvre.”
Edward Steichen to Edna Woodman Chase, 1920s
These words said by Steichen to the first editor in chief of Vogue aptly summarized the revolution started by Condé Nast, both in fashion as well as in photography more generally, when the publisher acquired the prestigious Vogue masthead in 1909. From then on, the story of fashion was no longer told exclusively in delicate nineteenth-century illustrations, but also by great international photographers with creative license. Edward Steichen was one of the first photographer to shoot for Vogue, accepti...Exposition Horst P. Horst presents « Icons of fashion and beauty » at the Bernheimer Gallery

Horst: Icons of Fashion and Beauty reveals, that the main focus is on fashion, portrait and nude photography. Some 35 photographs will be shown, which Horst shot over 50 years.
In the six decades of his artistic career Horst P. Horst rose to become one of the most important forerunners in fashion and society photographs of the 20th century. Horst began his career in 1931 in Paris at French Vogue. Photographs by the German-American photographer reveal a masterly consideration for composition, light and shadow, as well as a distinct sense for geometry and lines. The exhibited world-famous photograph Mainbocher Corset exemplifies this. The dramatic studio light of ...Exposition Swann Galleries’ Thursday, October 4 auction of Fine Photographs & Photobooks

A group exhibition mainly curated from its own collection, displaying more than 40 photographers and their perspectives on mostly female nude art. Selected classics are supplemented with, in some cases, never before exhibited contemporary works of Blaise Reutersward, Nadav Kander, or Ralph Mecke.
The kaleidoscopic exhibition stretches from classical, nearly sculptural studio-stagings, as in the works of Horst P. Horst, Frantisek Drtikol, or Rudolf Koppitz, to the erotic and provocative images of Helmut Newton or Bettina Rheims, and extending to the series of documentary pictures by recently-deceased Larry Sultan, which originated off-set during pornographic shootings.
The studio-photography of the Pictorialists was followed by trend-setting picture experiments in the 1920s. Artists like Man Ray, Andr?© K&e...Exposition The Vision of the Other: Modernity and the Photographed Face
KOWASA gallery presents "The Vision of the Other: Modernity and the Photographed Face", a group show which attempts to define the way in which the human face was photographically constructed before its abolition by Postmodernism. The exhibition primarily offers a thorough insight into the history of portrait photography with a special emphasis on the shift of the portrait from being a mere "extension of the painted body" to being the photographic genre par excellence. At the same time it highlights the aesthetic and conceptual evolution of early portraiture from Pictorialism towards a modernist experimentation and subjectivity.
The exhibition gathers more than 70 black and white prints whose protagonists are Coco Chanel, Ernest Heminway, André Breton, Marc Chagall, Dalí, Josep Pl...Exposition Horst P. Horst Joachim Froese written in the past From February 11 until March 24, 2009, Flo Peters Gallery will be showing photographs by Horst P. Horst and by Joachim Froese.
Being one of the most important photographers of the 20th century, Horst P. Horst has significantly defined face and character of still life photography as well as portrait and fashion photography. Within six decades of transatlantic work for the publisher Condé Nast, namely for the Vogue, the German-born, who in 1943 assumed US citizenship and divested himself of his birth name Horst Paul Albert Bohrmann, decisively influenced the development and the perception of photography. Even today he is considered a seminal antetype for young photographers.
Typical for the work of Horst P. Horst is the referencing to clear classicist poses and the reduced yet always accurate use of light. His...Exposition Horst P. Horst exhibition In collaboration with the Horst Estate (Miami/Florida), Bernheimer Fine Art Photography is featuring Horst P. Horst, one of the world's best-known photographers. During the 60-70 years of his artistic output, Horst Paul Albert Bohrmann (as he was born) became one of the most important and influential fashion, advertising and society photographers of the 20th century.
The doyen of classic photography, Horst began his career in Paris in 1931, working for Vogue in Paris and its American counterpart, for whom he produced icons of photographic history such as "White Sleeve" (1936), "Mainbocher Corset" (1939) and "Lisa as V.O.G.U.E." (1940).
It is less well-known that, besides his legendary fashion pictures, Horst P. Horst produced works that even today are largely unknown and illuminate his...Exposition FASHION 9 decades of fashion photography
