Paris Photo is considered to be one of the outstanding art fairs for photography. Over 140 galleries from 34 countries display artworks from the 19th century to the present by more than 3500 photographers in the beautiful Parisian Grand Palais. In November 2015 the fair had to be closed prematurely due to the tragic events of November 13. With the exhibition “BOOTH D9 – Sélection Paris Photo” we are giving our artists an opportunity to present their works again in our gallery space in Lucerne.

One part of the exhibition is dedicated to French photographer Lucien Clergue and features a small retrospective of his work from all periods of his long-lasting career. He received worldwide recognition with his playful nude photographs and Venus imagery of the series “Nus de la Mer” and “Nus de la Plage” which blurred the boundaries between art and photography. This exhibition will be complemented by a selection of classical and contemporary photography with a focus on the works of French photographer Jeanloup Sieff. He never wanted to be seen in only one genre, but became famous with his portraits of celebrities of the 1970s. Sieff ‘s works are also characterised by a certain elegance, with the curving line of the female figure surrounded by a mysterious atmosphere and through a sophisticated play with light and shadows. Moreover, Bernheimer will show works by Annie Leibovitz from her Dancer’s series, iconic fashion photography by Horst P. Horst, Polaroids by Julian Schnabel, nude photography by Vanessa von Zitztewitz, nightly glowing images of  the Tel Aviv series by Mat Hennek, platinum prints of the graceful horse-torso series by Silke Lauffs as well as new portraits by Jan C. Schlegel that explore the subcultures of our digital era.

On this occasion, Bernheimer presents the new book by American photographer Sebastian Copeland “Arctica – The Vanishing North” that documents and highlights the effects of climate change. His images show a remote, endangered world which is about to disappear. For the duration of the exhibition a limited edition of signed copies can be purchased.
