Edward Weston, ...Livre Edward Weston's Book of Nudes In 1953 the writer and curator Nancy Newhall assembled, with the cooperation of the photographer Edward Weston, a mock-up for an elegant book featuring Weston's photographs of the nude. It was the only book on this subject that Weston himself participated in creating. The sample book intersperses landscapes and still lifes with nude studies and includes an essay written by Newhall on the artist's aesthetic. The proposal was rejected in the 1950s, however, by publishers of fine art photographs, who were reluctant to address the subject. In 1985 the mock-up was acquired by the J. Paul Getty Museum with some pages and prints missing, yet it was only in 2006 that curator Brett Abbott recognized the key to reconstructing the unpublished book in its entirety. An exponent of ‘straight photography', Weston was committed to making photographs ‘free from technical tricks and incoherent emotionalism' which were able to capture the essence of the subject. His series of self-portraits, nudes, landscapes and close-up still-lifes defined modernist photography in their formal elegance, simplicity and abstraction. The first photographer to win a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1937, Weston is among the most influential figures in the history of photography....Vente Ventes : Photographie Moderne et Contemporaine - 25 mai 2016 Le 25 mai prochain, venez découvrir la vente organisée par Viviane Esders Photographie : « Photographie Moderne et Contemporaine »

Relatively early in their relationship, Stieglitz made this stunning image, printed in platinum. There is an obvious sensuousness as O’Keeffe poses in front of one of her charcoal drawings—evidence of the shared passion between the two artists.

Il s’agit de projets esthétiques qui font partie intégrante de...Exposition Exhibition : « The Winter Solstice » Scott Nichols Gallery is please to announce The Winter Solstice a collection of photographs celebrating the changing of the season and the festivities associated with this time of the year. Cultures from around the world have interpreted winter as the season of rebirth and the end of the harvest. Over the centuries we have changed and redefined the meaning of wintertime.
Howard Bond, Ontario Farm, 1981
Featuring photographs ranging from the vintage to the contemporary, and landscape to documentary, The Winter Solstice explores the rich and complex history humanity has shared with the wintertide. Images of snow, people keeping warm to stave off the cold, and wintertime frolicking not only show a view beyond the shores but a collection of shared experiences.

Through 22 photographs from their collection, Philip and Rosella Rolla propose a short journey through the « Westonian vision ».
As Pino Musi writes in the catalog text : There is in the eyes of the American photographer, a slowed down and repeated attention to the subject, taking an analytical posture that through small displacements of light, framing, distance, searches out the “quintessence of the thing itself”, aiming right at the heart of the form without side distractions.
