Trent Park est né à Newcastle en Australie. Utilisant le Pentax Spotmatic de sa mère et la lingerie comme chambre noire, il commence à pratiquer la photographiquer dès ses 12 ans. Aujourd'hui, Parke, le seul photographe australien à être représenté par Magnum, a l'une des signatures les plus étonnantes dans le photojournalisme australien.

FotoFreo 2010: The City of Fremantle Festival of Photography is delighted to announce the opening of bookings for the Magnum Workshop Fremantle, an Australian first and a unique photography experience held in the beautiful port city of Fremantle in Western Australia.
As part of FotoFreo 2010, Magnum Photos will present an intensive, practice oriented five-day photography workshop from 15th – 19th March. Three international photographers from the renowned photography agency, Trent Parke, David
Alan Harvey and Chien-Chi Chang, will lead intimate groups of twelve individuals through a program of group and solo critiques, practical, technical and theoretical advice and assistance with successful editing processes.

Réédité en « Petit Format », l'ouvrage Magnum Magnum était déjà paru en 2007. Ce livre retrace le travail des grands maîtres de la photographie du XXe siècle, des grands photographes actuels et des nouveaux talents de l'agence de photographes la plus connue du monde. 400 images iconiques des 60 dernières années ont été ici sélectionnées et commentées par les 69 photographes de Magnum. Trent Parke’s epic and personal body of work The Black Rose premiered to great acclaim at the Art Gallery of South Australia in March 2015. Created over seven years, the series explores universal themes – birth, death, love, loss, memory and the passing of time. It started out as a conversation with some of his fellow Magnum members on the concept of Home. Parke was inspired to understand his own story and to excavate his own histories, which had become buried under day-to-day life for many years. Despite the very personal nature of his investigation, Parke’s work reflects more broadly on our attempts to make sense of personal stories, dreams and chance. As the weather cools and the city comes down from the hot crush of Mad March, the Adelaide Festival of the Arts retains a toehold on North Terrace, presenting Trent Parke: The Black Rose at the Art Gallery of South Australia until May 10.
The show – by Australia’s only Magnum photographer – is an immersive multimedia display over a series of curtained-off dark rooms. Shot over seven years and augmented by images taken by Parke’s wife, photographer Narelle Autio, the installation documents Parke’s quest to reclaim lost memories of his childhood.

Celebrating artist books in all their forms, from handcrafted one-offs to self-published photobooks, sculptural creations and vintage punk fanzines, Bookmarked is a curated group exhibition that allows visitors to get lost between the pages. Bookmarked will feature a display of nearly 50 books on special loan from the Asia-Pacific Photobook Archive - the only Archive of photobooks from this region in the world. The archive, recently shown at the Photobook Melbourne Festival, promotes the ‘real’ way to see photobooks—that means hands-on and paper pages. Each December Stills Gallery features a show of selected Stills artists. The theme for Season 2014 is continuity and divergence. In 2003, Trent Parke set off on a road-trip around his native Australia, a monumental journey that was to last two years and cover a distance of over 90,000 km. Minutes to Midnight is the ambitious photographic record of that adventure, in which Parke presents a bold but uneasy nation struggling to craft its identity from different cultures and traditions. Originally exhibited at the Australian Centre for Photography in 2005 the work subsequently toured nationally and internationally.

Narelle Autio’s Seaweed Stacks is an intriguing image of sculptural seaweed forms on the beach near her home. The coast and water has been an ongoing inspiration for Autio, as is evident in her 2006 series celebrating bodies spontaneously at play beneath the surface of the water. With his characteristic originality and imagination Parke takes us with him backstage. Working amidst the darkness, with strictly choreographed logistics, bizarre props and long hours, he captures, with frankness and affection a side of Sydney Opera House few of us have ever seen. The end of the year is upon us. To celebrate we are showing a selection of six Stills artists. Trent Parke’s dark and humorous series The Christmas Tree Bucket is highly appropriate for this seasonal show. "I started to think how strange families, suburbia, life... and in particular Christmas, really was" says Parke of his decision to focus on the joys and pitfalls of family life. For over sixty years, Magnum photographers have been responsible for taking some of the world’s most memorable photographs, images that have become instantly recognizable. Robert Capa’s iconic ‘The Falling Soldier’ (1936), Cartier-Bresson’s seminal ‘Place de l ’Europe’ (1932) capturing a man jumping a large puddle, or Dennis Stock’s famous photograph of James Dean walking in the rain in Times Square (1955) are classic examples. These are images from the early years of Magnum, the height of photojournalism in the traditional sense, of black and white reportage and ‘the decisive moment’.
