Created over seven years, the series explores universal themes – birth, death, love, loss, memory and the passing of time. It started out as a conversation with some of his fellow Magnum members on the concept of Home. Parke was inspired to understand his own story and to excavate his own histories, which had become buried under day-to-day life for many years. Despite the very personal nature of his investigation, Parke’s work reflects more broadly on our attempts to make sense of personal stories, dreams and chance. Stills Gallery is delighted to be able to present a selection of works from this significant series.

This exhibition offers insight into the working methods of the world’s most famed journalistic photographers, by looking at their original contact sheets.
The exhibition consists of 60 contact sheets and associated single images and offers a chronological overview of outstanding historical moments from the 1930s to 2010. Work can be seen by renowned photographers such as Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, David ‘Chim’ Seymour, Werner Bischof, George Rodger, Elliott Erwitt, Martin Parr, Jim Goldberg, Trent Parke, Paolo Pellegrin and Alec Soth. In Contact Sheets, the legendary agency Magnum Photos (established in 1947) shows for the first time the circumstances in whi...Exposition Exhibition : Trent Parke's photos capture the brilliantly ordinary struggle for life As the weather cools and the city comes down from the hot crush of Mad March, the Adelaide Festival of the Arts retains a toehold on North Terrace, presenting Trent Parke: The Black Rose at the Art Gallery of South Australia until May 10.
The show – by Australia’s only Magnum photographer – is an immersive multimedia display over a series of curtained-off dark rooms. Shot over seven years and augmented by images taken by Parke’s wife, photographer Narelle Autio, the installation documents Parke’s quest to reclaim lost memories of his childhood.

The theme for Season 2014 is continuity and divergence. There are twelve artists with a highly diverse range of practices that reflect both the history (of the gallery and of photography itself) and the diversity with which photography has developed in unprecedented ways over the last twenty years.
Steven Lojewski’s series Populace was one of the first exhibitions at Stills when it began in 1991. These black and white images in the tradition of documentary street photography look as fresh as the day they were first seen. They are the same silver gelatin prints printed by the artist at that time. In the vein of found photographs, Ian Dodd, a generation before Lojewski, shows new unseen work (Presence) in vibrant and romantic colour after yea...Exposition Aqua#5 Partenaire officiel de Paris Photo depuis 2011, Giorgio Armani présente la 5e édition de l’exposition ACQUA, consacré au thème de l’eau dans la photographie.
L’animal fascine, attendrit, terrorise, symbolise nos croyances, peuple notre imaginaire.
This exhibition draws from a wide range of photomedia including traditional photographic practices and some rich examples of contemporary documentary in Sydney. All the participating artists have exhibited at Stills before.

The artists are Narelle Autio, Polixeni Papapetrou, Anne Noble, Danielle Thompson, Garry Trinh, Ben Cauchi, Gilbert Bel-Bachir, Ian Dodd, Mark Kimber and Trent Parke. The mood for the exhibition is ‘transcendent’ epitomized by the vibrant underwater worlds of Narelle Autio in works from the series Water Hole and the sublime magic realism of Ian Dodd’s black and white fairytale landscapes.
In 2003, Trent Parke set off on a road-trip around his native Australia, a monumental journey that was to last two years and cover a distance of over 90,000 km. Minutes to Midnight is the ambitious photographic record of that adventure, in which Parke presents a bold but uneasy nation struggling to craft its identity from different cultures and traditions. Originally exhibited at the Australian Centre for Photography in 2005 the work subsequently toured nationally and internationally.
To celebrate the upcoming publication of Minutes to Midnight by Steidl (along with Parke’s The Christmas Tree Bucket), Stills Gallery is proud to present a selection of some classic images from the Minutes to Midnight series as well as previously unseen work featured in the book. Steidl, one of the world’s most sophistic...Exposition Season10 - Stills Gallery, Sydney In SEASON10 we are featuring a mix of unseen images and work selected from previous series by each artist, with an emphasis on summer and celebration.
Narelle Autio’s Seaweed Stacks is an intriguing image of sculptural seaweed forms on the beach near her home. The coast and water has been an ongoing inspiration for Autio, as is evident in her 2006 series celebrating bodies spontaneously at play beneath the surface of the water. Trent Parke is represented with gems from a current work in progress, The Black Rose, which is about coming to terms with the interconnectedness of past, present and future. Also showing will be favourites from The Christmas Tree Bucket series.
In her new images In Lieu, Like A Bird Now and The Ravellor, Pat Brassington continues her fascination with the transformed human body as a sit...Exposition Oeuvres choisies - Magnum Gallery

...Exposition TRENT PARKE - Please step quietly everyone can hear you This year Magnum photographer Trent Parke, one of Australia's best-known and most original photographers was commissioned by Sydney Opera House, as an artist in residence, to shoot behind the scenes. With his characteristic originality and imagination Parke takes us with him backstage. Working amidst the darkness, with strictly choreographed logistics, bizarre props and long hours, he captures, with frankness and affection a side of Sydney Opera House few of us have ever seen. The images that have resulted from this exciting collaboration will be on show in complementary exhibitions at Sydney Opera House and at Stills Gallery.
Whilst it is an architectural masterpiece and Australian icon, it is easy to forget that for some, Sydney Opera House is also a workplace. Behind the architectural statement, the grand operas an...Exposition Season 08 Exposition collective Stills gallery The end of the year is upon us. To celebrate we are showing a selection of six Stills artists. Trent Parke’s dark and humorous series The Christmas Tree Bucket is highly appropriate for this seasonal show. "I started to think how strange families, suburbia, life... and in particular Christmas, really was" says Parke of his decision to focus on the joys and pitfalls of family life. The series can be seen in full at the Australian Centre for Photography in Paddington and has just been shown (in part) with great interest at Paris Photo, France.
Narelle Autio’s underwater images continue to fascinate viewers. Shown here is a selection of works from different series. The body in watery space is celebrated in these glorious balletic photographs that gain in impact in proximity to each other. Summer is ...Exposition The evolution of documentary photography For over sixty years, Magnum photographers have been responsible for taking some of the world’s most memorable photographs, images that have become instantly recognizable. Robert Capa’s iconic ‘The Falling Soldier’ (1936), Cartier-Bresson’s seminal ‘Place de l ’Europe’ (1932) capturing a man jumping a large puddle, or Dennis Stock’s famous photograph of James Dean walking in the rain in Times Square (1955) are classic examples. These are images from the early years of Magnum, the height of photojournalism in the traditional sense, of black and white reportage and ‘the decisive moment’. With this in mind, it is interesting to consider what the future iconic Magnum images will be. ‘Magnum Contemporary’ at Atlas Gallery will feature striking photo...Exposition Melbourne Art Fair 2008 Melbourne Art Fair
