Taryn Simon was born in New York in 1975. She is a graduate of Brown University and a Guggenheim Fellow. Her influential project, The Innocents, documents cases of wrongful conviction in the United States and investigates photography's role in that process. Simon's photographs have been exhibited nationally and internationally, including: High Museum of Art, Atlanta; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, New York; Haus Der Kunst, Munich; Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati; and Kunst-Werke Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin. Her photography and writing have been featured in numerous publications and broadcasts including The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, CNN, BBC, Frontline, and NPR.

Photo London a présenté hier le programme de sa troisième édition. Et bien que fondée en 2015, la foire anglaise s’impose déjà comme une référence parmi les grands salons de photographie internationaux.
L’un des temps forts de cette année est l’élection de Taryn Simon au titre de Master of photography 2017. À cette occasion, l’artiste multidisciplinaire dévoilera son projet Image Atlas. L’oeuvre confrontera les images que l'on obtient lorsque l’on rentre des termes spécifiques sur les moteurs de recherche locaux du monde entier.

The show consists of over 136 artists from fifty-three countries, and will feature a space for live programming in the Central Pavilion designed by David Adjaye called The Arena. “The linchpin of this program will be the epic live reading of all three volumes of Karl Marx’s Das Kapital,” Enwezor states. “Here, Das Kapital will serve as a kind of Oratorio that will be continuously read live, throughout the exhibition’s seven months’ duration.”
The 56th International Art Exhibition will form a unitary itinerary that starts at the Central Pavilion (Giardini) and continues at the Arsenale, with over 136 artists from 53 countries, of whom 89 will be showing here for the first time.

"Conflict, Time, Photography" presents the many facets of the artistic portrayal of armed conflicts using the medium of photography. Artists such as Don McCullin, Pierre-Antony-Thouret, Simon Norfolk, Stephen Shore, Michael Schmidt and Taryn Simon have depicted acts of war and their legacy, in photographs taken in the mo-ment of the action, as well as days, months, years, and even decades after the event. Tate Modern presents A Living Man Declared Dead and Other Chapters I-XVIII 2011, a powerful and elaborately constructed new body of photographic work by the American artist Taryn Simon (b. 1975). Over a four-year period, Simon travelled around the world recording bloodlines and their related stories. In each chapter, the external forces of territory, power, circumstance or religion collide with the internal forces of psychological and physical inheritance. The subjects Simon documents include feuding families in Brazil, victims of genocide in Bosnia, the body double of Saddam Hussein's son, Uday, and the living dead in India. Her collection is at once cohesive and arbitrary, mapping the relationships among chance, blood and other components of fate.
