In 1960 the two drove from New York through Gettysburg, Memphis, and Albuquerque to Reno. They were among 18 photojournalists commissioned by Magnum to document the Nevada set of Arthur Millerís The Misfits. The destination was momentous for Morath--she took remarkable photographs, and later married Miller after his divorce from Marilyn Monroe--but it is the trip, the 18 days she spent traveling, as documented in both photographs and journal entries, (ìwritten each night at the table in a motel room that was always in a different place but always looked the sameî), that in its casualness can unfold for readers her carefully observed, insightful, and compassionate approach to rep...Livre Inge Morath: The Road to Reno Inge Morathís first trip across the United States followed a red grease-pencil line drawn by her traveling companion, Henri Cartier-Bresson. “I feel there is something unexplored about women that only a woman can explore.” Georgia O’Keeffe, 1925
Staley-Wise Gallery presents an exhibition celebrating prominent women photographers from the fields of documentary and fashion photography. Photographers from the legendary cooperative Magnum Photos are engaged in a visual and thematic dialogue with photographers working in editorial and advertising photography. Photographing and moving in different spheres, they are recording and interacting with women in the larger world to highlight disparate subjects such as war, childhood, religion, sexuality and style while celebrating the complexity of the female experience.
Photographers included: Eve Arnold / Olivia Arthur / Lillian Bassman / Louise Dahl-Wolfe / Bieke Depoorter / Ca...Exposition Magnum's First first event for the friendship year between France and Korea The Museum of Photography, Seoul will bring out the exhibition Magnum’s First, organized by Magnum Photos (founded in 1947), a photographic co-operative of great diversity and distinction in Europe and U.S. owned by its photojournalist-members. This exhibition is the first event for the friendship year between France and Korea in 2015 and 2016.
Magnum’s First is composed of 83 black and white vintage prints that make up the eight photo essays by Henri Cartier Bresson, Marc Riboud, Inge Morath, Jean Marquis, Werner Bischof, Ernest Haas, Robert Capa and Erich Lessing. In fact, the exhibition has its own story. The original name of Magnum’s First was Gesicht der Zeit. Rediscovered in an Innsbruck cellar in 2006, the first Magnum group exhibition, Gesicht der Zeit, was initially presented in five Austria...Exposition Exhibition : Drive In at Bildhalle Curated by Galerie Esther Woerdehoff, Paris and Mirjam Cavegn, Bildhalle, Drive In is an exhibition about cars, showing the approach of this subject by numerous photographers, from the fifties to nowadays.
When Elliott Erwitt, during and after the depression era, photographed those rolling dreams with his candid sense of humor and irony, cars, especially the very large and imposing ones, were already a landmark in the American landscape. When René Burri travelled to Brazil to document the building of modern cities, one of his most stunning photographs, «Men on a roof top, Sao Paulo, 1960», is a view of the rush hour traffic on a busy street. Simone Kappeler, another Swiss photographer, drove through America in 1981, 30 years after her fellow countryman Robert Frank, and took pictures with her Hassel...Exposition Drive In exhibition about cars Curated by Galerie Esther Woerdehoff, Drive-In is an exhibition about cars, showing the approach of this subject by numerous photographers, from the fifties to nowadays.
When Elliott Erwitt, during and after the depression era, photographed those rolling dreams with his candid sense of humor and irony, cars, especially the very large and imposing ones, were already a landmark in the American landscape. In the early fifties, when Swiss photographer Robert Frank, thanks to a Guggenheim fellowship grant, drove his car across America for two years, he had his family with him. The picture of his wife Mary and their two children, totally exhausted and half asleep in the car, is an iconic image in the history of photography.

Until today Magnum stands for documentary photography of the highest standard. Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger and David Seymour (Chim) founded the legendary photo agency in 1947, with the aim to work independently in a motivated cooperative of likeminded photographers - as reporters, commentators and poets with a camera. The decisive moment and Human Interest became the central paradigms of this group.
The exhibition IN OUR TIME opens a time window to the first forty years of Magnum with photographs of the five initiators and fifty other members, such as Werner Bischof, Ernst Haas, Erich Lessing, Eve Arnold, Marc Riboud, Elliott Erwitt, Inge Morath, René Burri, Bruce Davidson, Constantine Manos, Burk Uzzle, Hiroji Kubota, Bruno Barbey, Josef Koudelka, Gilles Peress, Mary Ellen Mark, Susa...Exposition Mois de la Photo 2012 : Subtiles et Etrangetés aux Galeries Photo Fnac Montparnasse et Forum des Halles
Qu’il s’a...Exposition Early Magnum à Londres rare prints from the Magnum archive
In February 2010 Magnum Photos announced the sale of its New York print archive to the founder of Dell computers, Michael Dell. Comprising over 185,000 photographs, this landmark acquisition takes a substantial amount of previously purchasable early Magnum photographs off the market, to be catalogued and preserved as a study collection at the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas, Austin. “Early Magnum” provides an opportunity to view rare prints from the Magnum archive in London, which remain available for sale. Composed of work by photographers associated with the agency in its first 10 years (1947 – 1957), it includes all four founders: Henri Cartier-Bresson, David Seymour, George Rodger and Robert Capa; series’ by Werner Bischof, Leonard Freed and Dennis Stock, as well as individua...Exposition Portraits d'artistes Les grandes figures du XXe siècle devant l'objectif Picasso en pleine création dans les ateliers de Madoura ou arborant chapeau et revolver offerts par Gary Cooper, Alberto Giacometti aux côtés du Buste de Diego, Francis Bacon dans son atelier devant Trois Etudes pour le portrait de John Edwards, mais aussi Arthur Miller prenant la pose pour son épouse au Champs de Mars, François Truffaut à l’écriture et Henri Cartier-Bresson découvrant ses oeuvres au Grand Palais…

A leurs côtés : poètes et écrivains – Jean Cocteau, Jacques Pr&eac...Exposition MAGNUM'S first - Flo Peters Gallery
Magnum Photos and the Flo Peters Gallery present the sensational rediscovery of the first Magnum Group exhibition of 1955.
Research shows that the exhibition "Face of Time" was first shown in June/July 1955 in the French Cultural Institute in Innsbruck. Their existence forgotten, the 83 Magnum Vintage Prints lay hidden in two wooden boxes in the basement of the French Cultural Institute for more than 50 years. Only in 2006 was this treasure rediscovered and returned to Magnum Photos. This unique historical discovery revises the belief that the Magnum exhibition curated by Fritz Gruber for the Colonial photokina in the autumn of 1956 was the first.
This rediscovered original exhibition of 83 images from 8 photographers of the first Magnum-generation is now presented exclusively at the Flo Peters Gal...Exposition Magnum Photos 60 years at the Stedelijk Museum Throughout that period MAGNUM never ceased to supply photographs that have become part of the world’s collective memory – pictures of landmark events like the Russian army’s invasion of Prague in 1968 and the Tiananmen Square demonstrations in Beijing in 1989. The exhibition uses photographs, books and texts to illustrate the history of MAGNUM year by year and gives visitors the opportunity to view work by 83 photographers, such as Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Carl de Keyzer, Martin Parr, Susan Meiselas and Leonard Freed.
MAGNUM was established in 1947 by Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger and David Seymour. They were convinced that photography was the best medium with which to document world events and raise public awareness. And they succeeded – the way MAGNUM photographer...Exposition Inge Morath and Arthur Miller - China In 1978, only two years after the end of China’s Cultural Revolution, photographer Inge Morath and her husband, playwright Arthur Miller, were invited to travel to China. They returned again in 1979 and 1983, fueled by Morath’s knowledge of Chinese language, poetry, and history, and Miller’s interest in the politics of the present moment. This exhibition captures two artists responding to a society in transition—photographs by Morath, accompanied by excerpts from both her and Miller's journals, which reflect Morath’s empathy for China's people and culture and her urgent desire to understand what Miller called “China's contradiction”: the ongoing struggle of new traditions in conflict with ancient ones.
The exhibition was curated by John P. Jacob, Director, The Inge Morath Founda...Modifier l'image
