Livre David Bailey - Is That So Kid “Is that so Kid” was a typical reaction by the film director, John Huston, father of Anjelica. The book is a record of this photographic collaboration....Livre David Bailey: Pictures That Mark Can Do Relié: 176 pages

...Livre Bailey's Democracy Everyone is equal before the law. And anyone who accepted David Baileyís recent invitation to his studio to be photographed in the nude became part of this astonishing book. Bailey laid down some strict rules: he shot all subjects in the same light and without props. Makeup and retouching were shunned. He took six photographs of each person, and selection and composition were his own affair. These rules, his imposed democracy, result in a celebration of the naked body in all its lovely (and not-so-lovely) splendor. Naked, Bailey specifies, not nude: ìAll that worrying about poncy lighting, making people look like landscapes or rocks. If I wanted to photograph a fucking rock, I'd photograph a fucking rock.î And of the projectís conception 30 years ago? ìThis is going to sound pretentious, but I was reading Plato's Re...Livre David Bailey - Havana Photographer David Bailey has said, self-deprecatingly, that Havana "is just a superficial look, not a soul-searching investigation, a quick impression of a place that is unique in its geographical position." But he reveals the importance of that quick impression and the depth of his understanding when he describes Havana's "unique position"--with surreal accuracy--as "much closer to the United States of America than the space station is." Both are places ordinary Americans cannot visit. To be one of the poorest nations on Earth, almost within spitting distance of the richest makes the poverty of Cuba seem more extreme. Two countries with extreme ideologies; the small one proving that Communism does not work, the other proving that democratic paranoia does work if the power and the money are in place. Havana makes use of...Vente Fair : « Black and White - Art Basel 2015 » at Daniel Blau “I prefer black and white, it eliminates the distraction of colour. Birds use colour as a warning signal; a green berry is ignored, while a red one is eaten. If one looks at a colour image, the first reaction is to the colour, in black and white you see the message instantly. So, black-and-white cuts to the chase.”

Shoot! Shoot! These decades were known for upheaval, provocation and creative energy. The Nicola Erni Collection, based in Zug, Switzerland, of which some 200 photographs are displayed here, takes visitors right into the heart of the vibrant cultural and party life that dominated the scene in New York, London and Paris. We penetrate this world through the lenses of the great photographers of the day, from Diane Arbus and Richard Avedon, Gary Winogrand, Helmut Newton, Annie Leibovitz to Robert Mapplethorpe. By setting the scene of variety and juxtaposition as a context, the show culminates in a colourful, affordable and light-hearted exhibition for Christmas. Works by David Bailey, Ansel Adams, Margaret Bourke-White, and Nobuyoshi Araki are featured alongside astonishing US Army, US Airforce, and NASA prints.
Araki to Zangaki contrasts documentary prints with contemporary colour photographs and illustrates the varied forms and practices of photography. The works by Araki and Bailey highlight the diverse way in which one medium of photography can be used.
Bailey: Uncharted - Paris Photo Los Angeles 2014. Opening: April 24, 3-9pm / Exhibition: April 25-27, 12-7pm
At the 2014 Paris Photo art fair in Los Angeles, we will present Bailey’s new series “Uncharted”. This series of unique “torn” silver prints features some of Bailey’s most famous portraits of celebrities such as Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Mick Jagger and Jack Nicholson. Bailey has returned to some of his best known pictures and given them a new twist by tearing the edges of the photographs.
In the age of digital imaging, where the photograph is reduced to a series of pixels, Bailey’s tearing emphasises the tactile nature of his works, rendering them highly personal. Despite the prevalence and convenience of digital photography, where millions of photographs are...Exposition Bailey « 70s Polaroids » at the Galerie Daniel Blau

« The best thing about Polaroid is to use it for porn, because you don’t have
to take it to the chemist! »
Bailey, Jan. 16, 2014
In the first of three exhibitions exploring the work of British artist David Bailey, we are delighted to present “Bailey: 70s Polaroids” at our Munich gallery.
In 1974, Bailey took his Polaroid SX70, which was at the time the most advanced camera in the world, to Papua New Guinea to photograph the lives of the people living there. Exhibiting the faces of indigenous people from the deepest jungles of the country, the images from this trip represent a close-up, nostalgic view o...Exposition Steidl : When Photography and Books Become One From Robert Frank to Karl Lagerfeld
As part of its plans to engage with a wider public and in line with its desire to share in key events of Parisian cultural life, the Monnaie de Paris is taking part for the second time in the Mois de la Photo (Photo Month) and has chosen to pay tribute to a key figure from the world of photography, namely Gerhard Steidl.
Steidl founded the publishing house and printing works which bear his name in 1972 and has played a part in promoting the work of the most important photographers, past and present, with a whole series of admirable books. The quality of the page layout, typography and choice of paper, together with the incredible care taken over the actual manufacturing of the books, mean that these are genuine objets d’art and very popular with connoisseurs.
Fifty years on from a decade that changed our cultural history, these images celebrate a period of spontaneity and decadence, capturing the glamour and hedonism of the era. Among the famous faces immortalised by Bailey's lens are Mick Jagger, Michael Caine, John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and the beautiful Jean Shrimpton. Photographs of these headline makers and many others, selected for exhibition by Bailey himself, will be on sale at Bonhams' New Bond Street galleries in signed and authenticated limited editions.
Born in the East End of London in 1938, David Bailey first explored his nascent interest in photography when posted to Singapore with the RAF in 1956, discovering his exotic surroundings with a newly acquired Rollop. Within a year of his...Exposition POLAROID exhibition Atlas gallery
Early last year, the Polaroid Corporation ceased producing its iconic film. The 9th October 2009 will see the final “Use by” or Expiration date of the last batch of Polaroid film manufactured. The exhibition at Atlas will feature a wide selection of Polaroid prints by photographers who have either worked directly with the Polaroid Corporation as part of their research program or who have become famous for the quality of their Polaroid prints either alongside or independent from their traditional camera-based work. It will thus trace the development and use of this unique medium up to the present day. The opening reception will coincide with Polaroid film’s final date of expiration.
The Polaroid or ‘one-step photography’ was invented by Edwin H. Land, founder of the Polaroid Corporati...Exposition FASHION 9 decades of fashion photography
Gallery Camera Work in Berlin presents from September 20th until November 15th an exhibition of fashion photography of the 20th and 21st centuries. This group exhibition provides a representative overview of the development of fashion photography from its beginnings in the 1920s to the present time. With over 250 works of a total of 65 photographers - many of which are vintages - one can trace the different trends of fashion photography.
The spectrum of the photographs on display ranges from the sometimes classic compositions of an Edward Steichen to the experimental photographs of Man Ray, from the sexual revolution to the resulting emancipation of women as shown for example by Helmut Newton, from the cool elegance of the 1990s - influenced by Peter Lindbergh - to the highly imaginative works of a Tim Walker.
