Ce qui donnait au lecteur l'impr...Livre Arnold Newman The Early Work Whilst Arnold Newman is recognized as a pioneer of Environmental Portraiture, he spent the early years of his career experimenting in abstract and documentary photography. Spanning 1938 to 1942, this previously unpublished collection of his early work introduces his formative years as a photographer and gives an insight into the visual beginnings of a great photographic master. This uncharacteristic series of images focuses on the people and places impoverished by the Depression.
Arnold Newman (1918-2006) was born in New York City. He took up photography after leaving art school in 1938 and was “discovered” by Beaumont Newhall and Alfred Stieglitz in 1941. During the course of an enormously productive career he contributed to publications such as New York, Vanity Fair, Life, Look, Holiday, Harper's Bazaar, Esquire, ...Vente Ventes : Photographie Moderne et Contemporaine - 25 mai 2016 Le 25 mai prochain, venez découvrir la vente organisée par Viviane Esders Photographie : « Photographie Moderne et Contemporaine »

Pour Rodolf Hervé, atteint d’une maladie, l’autoportrait est cat...Exposition Daniel Blau Gallery presents « Other Portraits » Daniel Blau gallery is delighted to announce the opening of the forthcoming exhibition,‘Other Portraits’; a selection of portraits and self-portraits by twenty-two of some of the most significant and celebrated photographers of the twentieth century.

To look upon someone extraordinary, who has achieved greatness against great odds. To be moved by an image of one who has touched upon the lives of thousands. To seek knowledge and understanding. To find inspiration.
These are the experiences we seek when confronted by a great portrait. The figures captured in this exhibition were extraordinary, exuding character and living lives of triumph and disaster. The photographers who captured their essence, by necessity required a technical prowess but more importantly possess depth, empathy and pursue a true understanding of the human condition.
Portraits are certainly the great power in photography. They are the great confluence of documentary and artistry. Our natural voyeuristic condition draws us in and the medium allows us to feel an element of intimacy.

KOWASA gallery presents "The Vision of the Other: Modernity and the Photographed Face", a group show which attempts to define the way in which the human face was photographically constructed before its abolition by Postmodernism. The exhibition primarily offers a thorough insight into the history of portrait photography with a special emphasis on the shift of the portrait from being a mere "extension of the painted body" to being the photographic genre par excellence. At the same time it highlights the aesthetic and conceptual evolution of early portraiture from Pictorialism towards a modernist experimentation and subjectivity.
The exhibition gathers more than 70 black and white prints whose protagonists are Coco Chanel, Ernest Heminway, André Breton, Marc Chagall, Dalí, Josep Pl...Modifier l'image
