Spencer Tunick est née à Middletown, New York, en 1967.
Spencer Tunick a étudié au centre international de photographie (ICP) en 1990. Il vit présentement à Brooklyn dans l'état de New York.

Depuis 1992, Spencer Tunick demande à ces amis, à ces fans de poser nu et il a plus de 150 photos de nues, de New York jusqu'à Londre et même à Jérusalem.

"Et chaque fois, tous ses modèles sont payés de la même manière...une photo autographiée et une grosse histoire à raconter à leur amis."
Pour lui, ces photos expriment la conscience sociale, justaposer la condition humaine à la réalité quotidienne.

Spencer Tunick a vécu sa percée publique lors de sa première vraie exposition solo en 1998, dans une galerie de New York, la "I-20 Gallery". Son exposition s'intitulait "Naked States" ou États Nus.

Lors de cette exposition, Spencer Tunick a publié un catalogue contenant entre autres les photos que j'ai retenu par leur expression et leur particularité. Il a parcourru les États-Unis entier avec un petit minivan, afin de produire une photo dans chaque état.

Chaque fois, Spencer Tunick devait trouver le lieu idéal, recruter ces modèles et prendre les photos, souvent très tôt le matin (lumière), sans avertir les autorités locales car disons le, même si ce n'est pas illégal, Spencer Tunick a été arrêté quelques fois (mais jamais accusé)Depuis cette exposition, des tas de modèles se manifeste à chaque fois pour lui. Et de plus il fait partie d'une quantité d'exposition.
