It's been almost thirty years since the publication of Eugene Richards's landmark book, Below the Line: Living Poor in America. The book, though acclaimed at the time, was also controversial. Critics applauded the revealing nature of the stories, but often added, as if in the same breath, that what was being shown was a negative view of the country, one that lacked hope. Pushed to reply, Richards countered that these stories were, in fact, portraits in courage. Each person encountered on his journey across America was struggling, against great odds, to better him or herself.
On the occasion of its 5th anniversary in October 2016, the Bronx Documentary Center (BDC), a non-profit gallery and educational space whose mission is to share documentary photography, film,...Exposition HomeFrontLine: Reflections on Ten Years of War Since 9/11, at SilverEye Center for Photography

The photographs are portraits of the abandoned and forgotten houses of western America in areas such as the plains of Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico and the Dakotas. In the early twentieth century, railroads lured settlers west with the promises of homesteads and towns rose across the plains. But in the wake of the Depression and the dust storms of the 1930s the towns faltered then failed. Richards enigmatic photographs of these forgotten homes are a meditation on memory and loss – family photographs stuck on a wall, a wedding dress hanging in a bedroom, snow falling on a bed by...Exposition Ecotone at Centre national de l'audiovisuel CNA Luxembourg The Ecotone exhibition brings together 7 artists of different generations and backgrounds to explore the theme of "betweenness" the transient nature of things, migrations, dualities, confluents, yet also the intrinsic para dox of photography itself in terms of its positioning in a world between reality and construction.
Ecotone takes its name from ecology, where it designates an intermediary zone between two natural systems, transient or at odds with each other, characterised by a high density and diversity of species, often unexpected or astray. The term derives from the Greek "oikos" which refers to the habitat and "tonos", meaning tension. Ecotone undoubtedly refers to this ecological dimension, but furthermore, it serves as a receptacle to speak to us more broadly of moments in which ...Exposition Eugene Richards, photographe Reportage by Getty Images présentera l'exposition ‘War is Personal' lors de Visa pour l'image Le célèbre photojournaliste de Reportage by Getty Images, Eugene Richards, a été choisi par Visa pour I’Image pour exposer ses travaux ‘War is Personal’ lors du festival du 29 août au 13 septembre 2009.
