Vendredi 24 mars se tenait à Paris la conférence de presse des Rencontres de la photographie d'Arles qui auront lieu du 3 juillet au 24 septembre 2017. Au menu, une programmation ouverte sur le monde et les talents qui le peuplent. De la photographie colombienne à Joel Meyerowitz, en passant par Audrey Tautou ou Fukase, le déroulé des expositions a su piquer au vif notre curiosité. Arbitrairement, on a choisi de retenir dix photographies, histoire de se mettre en appétit en attendant le rosé et l'été arlésien.

Ce livre est porté par Anahita Ghabaian - docteure en histoire contemporaine - et Newsha Tavakolian – photographe iranienne, Téhéranaise, membre de l'agence Magnum. Elles cherchent ainsi à mettre en lumière l'Iran depuis la révolution de 1979. Pour brosser tous les aspects de la société iranienne, le livre regroupe huit chapitres : Le bouleversement, La guerre du front au salon, Ce que nous devons être, Qui sommes-nous ?, La torpeur, Mettre en scène la réalité, Crise environnementale et Le cinéma poète.

Shadi Ghadirian is one of Iran's leading contemporary photographers. Born in Tehran in 1974, she has exhibited widely in Europe and the United States, and her work has been collected by museums worldwide.
She came to the limelight in the late 1990s with her Qajar series, in which she examines the paradoxical position of women in Iran. Women in traditional clothing pose with items such as a mountain bike or a boom box.

Ce qui s’annonçait aux débuts des printemps arabes comme une promesse de beaux lendemains tourne au cauchemar dans certains pays. Face à ce déchainement d’horreurs et de destruction, les femmes et les hommes luttent pour sauver une apparente normalité dans leurs vies quotidiennes. La banalité du quotidien devient une forme de résistance face à la destruction.

New York – Howard Greenberg Gallery will show The Middle East Revealed: A Female Perspective, images exploring identity, culture, politics, and the history of the region, from June 26 – August 30, 2014.
The exhibition features the work of four contemporary artists Boushra Almutawakel of Yemen, Shadi Ghadirian of Iran, Rania Matar of Lebanon, and Reem Al Faisal of Saudi Arabia. The photographs will be on view for the first time in New York. In addition, the gallery will show photographs from Syria made in 1940 by Margaret Bourke-White for LIFE magazine. The exhibition will open with a reception on Thursday, June 26, from 6-8 p.m.

The photographer Shadi Ghadirian (b. Tehran 1974) is internationally recognised as a pioneering figure of the new wave of Iranian artists who came to prominence and flourished during the eight-year era of relative reform under President Khatami (1997 – 2005). Today, after a decade of exhibiting locally and internationally, her work promoting Iranian photography through her Fanoos.com portal and the significant influence she exerts on a new generation of Iranian artists, Ghadirian continues to build on her questing investigations into contemporary Iranian society.
