She studied Journalism and Asian studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder, USA. She began her career with the Associated Press in Panama in June 2003, where she also freelanced for The New York Times. In 2005 she left the AP to pursue freelance opportunities, and documented Bolivian President Evo Morales' rise to the presidency. In September 2006 she moved to Istanbul, Turkey where she is a contributor to publications including Stern, TIME magazine, L'Espresso, The New York Times Magazine and the Washington Post Magazine. In 2007 Kathryn was selected in as one of Photo District News (PDN) «30 Emerging Photographers to Watch».
