- Exposition
Duo Exhibition of Gerard Fieret & Tiane Doan Na Champassak
Tiane Doan na Champassak (1973), a French photographer of Asian descent, currently based in Provence, was first recognized for his documentary work (Agence Vu) before exploring a more artistic approach. His current photography is driven by a fascination for gender identity issues, revealing a decidedly aesthetic sensibility. Pushing his work to the point of abstraction and fascinated by acts of faith demonstrations and the question of identity, he continues to explore many aspects of human creativity.
For each body of work, print or publication, he seeks out the most appropriate techniques, materials and formats.
In this upcoming exhibition Kahmann Gallery will show two series of work by Champassak, Sunless and Spleen & Ideal. All images of both series were taken in Thailand between 2010 and 2013, and form a part o... - Exposition
VERGE MIAMI : DUTCH NUDES
“DUTCH NUDES” Photographers:
ED VAN DER ELKSEN (The Netherlands 1925 - 1990)
Ed van der Elsken was born in Amsterdam in 1925. Inspired and shaped by his relationships, extensive international travels and work abroad, Van der Elsken was known as the “enfant terrible” of Dutch photography. A talented photographer and filmmaker, he documented his meetings with people in photographs and films for more than 40 years. He preferred to photograph striking individuals and would often attract the subject’s attention before taking the picture. Many of his subjects therefore look straight into the lens. His first photography book, Love on the Left Bank, was published during his Parisian period in 1956 and instantly made him world-famous. Some 20 photography books followed. In 1988 Van der Elske... - Exposition
The Tireless Epic, Fieret - Tichý - Heyboer
Their personal universe and love of women were the starting points for an incessant stream of images showing the world as they saw it. All three were trained artists but entirely self-taught as photographers. This autumn, the Hague Museum of Photography is showing the work of a trio of eccentrics regarded by the photographic world as ‘outsiders’: Dutchmen Gerard Petrus Fieret and Anton Heyboer plus Czech artist Miroslav Tichý. The three are linked not only by their chosen themes, but also by an obstinately idiosyncratic way of life. This exhibition brings their highly singular worlds together. Its title, The Tireless Epic, comes from a poem written by Fieret.
Gerard Petrus Fieret (1924-2009) studied drawing and painting at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague immediately before and after the... - Exposition
