History’s Shadow, a new photography book by artist David Maisel (Nazraeli Press, $75, hardcover, 72 pages, ISBN 978-1-59005-278-4), examines art and artifacts through museum conservation x-rays. Like spectral transmissions conveying messages across time, the images in History’s Shadow make the invisible visible – expressing the shape-shifting nature of time itself and the continuous presence of the past contained within us. The book will be published October 1, 2011 and includes an essay by David Maisel and a short story by Jonathan Lethem.
Maisel’s work has always been concerned with processes of memory, excavation, and transformation. History's Shadow fuses the temporal, the artistic and the scientific, allowing us to see into previously hidden realms. The subjects of History’s ...Festival Photo London 2016

This original exhibition is the second installment of a triennial series showcasing the talent of and diverse scope of photographic work being done by photographers living within the Museum’s home state. Sixteen different artists, all of whom reside in California, are featured in the exhibition and all of the work has been created within the past five years.
The artists are both established and emerging and the variety of work is as varied as the state of California itself. Staking Claim: A California Invitational embraces the digital medium but also remains true to, and in some cases reinterprets, traditional photographic processes. The result is a dynamic exhibition that highlights the constant evolution of the art form.
...Exposition Library of Dust - David Maisel In its first solo exhibition in New York City, David Maisel’s Library of Dust will be on view at Von Lintel Gallery (520 West 23rd Street) from January 21 through February 27, 2010. The photographs in this acclaimed series depict strangely beautiful copper canisters, each containing the cremated remains of an individual patient from an Oregon psychiatric hospital. The canisters are blooming with colorful secondary minerals as the copper has oxidized and undergone physical and chemical transformations. Each pattern of corrosion is unique, some resembling otherworldly landscapes that recall Maisel's renowned aerial photography. Sublimely beautiful yet haunting, these enigmatic photographs can be seen as meditations on issues of matter and spirit.
In Library of Dust, Maisel investigates a zone bordered by ethics an...Modifier l'image
