There is always only the photograph which gazes back at the viewer. Sometimes with a careful, tentative and questioning look; sometimes with a brisk or hasty glance. But it always offers something: an invitation to brief conversations. The viewer always looks, and the photograph, full of curiosity, gazes back. As in 1966, when the German reportage photographer Robert Lebeck took a portrait of the former German chancellor Konrad Adenauer at his 90 th birthday celebration in Bonn. The image, published in the magazine „Kristall”, shows nothing more than the left eye of the aged chancellor. The rest is covered by the portly body of a stranger. But this eye was already enough. The magazine photo engaged the reader in a dialogue.
«The present moment and eternity: never are they as close to one another as in a Polaroid, that type of instant photo that is transient because it fades with time. It is also timeless, because its fuzziness, the way its contents seem to flow and merge into each other, opens up new horizons: the surreal rarely demands answers about either time or place. An old-fashioned oddity, the Polaroid is a one-off image, there is no negative. Even at the very moment that it comes into being, it begins to fade away and, as the colours grow paler, keeps on producing new trump cards – a mystery without answers, nothing is definite, everything is at the disposal of one´s imagination. Battered walls like clouds, the staircase in the Portuguese entrance hall leads to somewhere unknown. The child in the cornfield &ndas...Exposition HIGHLIGHTS by PHOTOKUNST

Neben der Präsentation etablierter Künstler steht besonders das Unterstützen ...Exposition L'allure des femmes - Sibylle Bergemann She has written photographic history: Sibylle Bergemann (born in Berlin in 1941) is one of Germany's truly great photographers. The diversity and scope of her work are frankly remarkable - thus, her mastery embraces fashion, reportages and photo-essays no less than landscapes, cityscapes and portraits. Her images are permeated by respect and empathy for people and their circumstances. Restraint is a hallmark of her photography, whose attention is fully focussed on its subjects. This approach allows Bergemann often to hit on pictorial formulations that are as surprising as they are convincing. Her photographic stance is that of a poetic realist.
Bergemann's images depict much more than merely visible surfaces: moods (without being 'moody' in a clichéd way) and atmospheres (but no trace of dreamy abandon). And sh...Exposition Scenes and Traces of a Fall. The Berlin Wall in the eyes of photographers An exhibition by the Foundation Brandenburger Tor organized by Matthias Harder
On October 3, 2009, the Day of German Unity, and on occasion of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Foundation Brandenburger Tor in the Max Liebermann House will open the exhibition 'Szenen und Spuren eines Falls. Die Berliner Mauer im Fokus der Photographen' (Scenes and Traces of a Fall. The Berlin Wall in the eyes of photographers). This historical change is presented in an individual and, at the same time, exemplary manner in 140 works by 21 renowned photographers. The Foundation Brandenburger Tor has its seat directly adjacent to Germany' s national monument. For the Foundation it is both an opportunity and an obligation to document the fall of the Berlin Wall exactly here at this place, which formed the centre of e...Exposition Sibylle Bergemann - Photographs Zurab Tsereteli’s Gallery of Art

Gallery Camera Work in Berlin presents from September 20th until November 15th an exhibition of fashion photography of the 20th and 21st centuries. This group exhibition provides a representative overview of the development of fashion photography from its beginnings in the 1920s to the present time. With over 250 works of a total of 65 photographers - many of which are vintages - one can trace the different trends of fashion photography.
The spectrum of the photographs on display ranges from the sometimes classic compositions of an Edward Steichen to the experimental photographs of Man Ray, from the sexual revolution to the resulting emancipation of women as shown for example by Helmut Newton, from the cool elegance of the 1990s - influenced by Peter Lindbergh - to the highly imaginative works of a Tim Walker. On...Modifier l'image
