Acclaimed photographer Roy Schatt studied painting with N.C. Wyeth and worked for the prestigious advertising agency BBDO in the 1930s in New York. His focus was always photography, while also working as a professional director and actor. During the 50s, he lived in Greenwich Village, the vibrant artistic epicenter of the epoch, and befriended creative personalities. Schatt's forte in portrait photography and his sensibility as an actor allowed him to capture the most genuine, even vulnerable, emotions of his subjects. Famed director Lee Strasberg recognized his caliber as a photographer and named Schatt the Official Photographer of the Actor's Studio. Schatt’s estate includes extraordinary photographs of James Dean and never before seen photographs of members of the Actors Studio during the 1950’s...
In the context of the SHOWROOM DAYS BERLIN, the museum THE KENNEDYS presents:
James Dean: A Different Icon
January 19 – February 13, 2011
(opening hours: daily 10:00am – 6:00pm)
With the beginning of the SHOWROOM DAYS BERLIN, the museum THE KENNEDYS will embark on a journey through time to the mid-20th century. Alongside the political icon John F. Kennedy, the story of another icon of pop culture will be put into focus: James Dean. Starting on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, a special exhibition on the phenomenon James Dean will be put on display in the architecturally appealing premises of the museum. The museum THE KENNEDYS offers its visitors the unique opportunity to encounter the special relationship between fashion life style and James Dean, whose 80th birthday anniversary falls on 8 February ...
James Dean n’&eacu...
ICONIC PORTRAITS OF POWERFUL AND INFLUENTIAL FIGURES OF THE LAST 60 YEARS - EXHIBITION OF RARE VINTAGE AND SIGNED PHOTOGRAPHS
Atlas Gallery announce an important new exhibition of rare portraits by some of the most notable photographers of the last six decades. Curated personally by the gallery's director Ben Burdett, the subjects have been chosen from the fields of politics, sport, the arts, entertainment and science.
The selection of works on show attempts to examine the way in which the camera portrait not only provides the individual with a visual memory and reference for the subjects of the portrait but in some rare cases, when reproduced enough times, provides an almost universal human record. The works chosen have been selected not only for the status and influence of the subjects but for the importance of ...
