"Kasaniya" (Tracks) is a series of large format color photographs, taken by Khoroshilova in the region of Karelia. Fought over since the 13th century, this area is now split up between Finland and Russia and forms the outer boarder of the European Union. For many people living outside of the EU, the border that runs through Karelia symbolizes a promise of a better life, for others the tragic crash of their dreams and hopes. Khoroshilova travelled through both the Russian and the Finish region and asked people to show her places that were meaningful to them and their families.

This path is indivisible from her personal life, from the drama of her biography, which is connected to the socio-cultural "wanderings" of the artist. Anastasia Khoroshilova encounters the people, things and landscapes in her photography at eye level. She never takes recourse to unusual perspectives, shooting from above or below. Khoroshilova shows us people at eye level, but she does not unmask them; she never gets too close. The contemporary Russian Federation stands before the photographer's camera in all its diversity: Mordva, Tatars, Adyghe, Cossacks, Finnish Karelian groups. All of them embossed by the Soviet Union. This is the main focus in the series "Russkie". Anastasia Khoroshilova's wor...Exposition Anastasia Khoroshilova - Islanders Born in Moscow in 1978, photographer Anastasia Khoroshilova focuses her work on the people of modern-day Russia and the countryside where they live. The artist, who lives in Berlin now, will be showing extensive photographic series in the Lingen Kunsthalle which she has produced during the past six years. One of Khoroshilova's reference points is Sergei Lobovikov. The Lingen Kunstverein mounted an exhibition of works by this early "Russian Master of Art Photography" as far back as 1995, availing of loans from Russian museums. His vintage prints, dating back to the early 20th century, also focus on people (primarily peasants who just a few years earlier had been in serfdom) as well as the countryside of his era.
Anastasia Khoroshilova studied in Germany, where she also launched her career. She is part of a phenomenon w...Exposition Anastasia Khoroshilova Russkie I called my biggest project, "Russkie." I want to bring together people of various nationalities and various religious confessions that, over time, arrived on the land of the Russian state from various other countries to live together in conditions shaped by history.
History has already conducted so many trials and experiments with these people that constant anxiety has become their life and fate. That is why I immediately decided for myself: even in my arbitrary visual world, I will leave them be as they are. I do not wish to, nor do I have the right to, meddle with their reality and disturb them once again. At the conceptual level, they became my conception.
