- Festival
19th Biennale of Sydney: You Imagine What You Desire
Embracing the human qualities of the title of the 19th Biennale of Sydney, Artistic Director Juliana Engberg describes the Art Gallery of NSW as ‘the beating heart, and the Promethean fire of this year’s Biennale of Sydney’.
The Biennale of Sydney is Australia’s largest and most exciting contemporary visual arts festival, held every two years across multiple venues in Sydney. The Art Gallery of NSW is a major venue and has been part of the Biennale since 1976.
Taking account of the Gallery’s concurrent contemporary season of exhibitions and the major Afghanistan show, Engberg has selected the work of the 17 artists for the Art Gallery of NSW that focus on the human qualities in the title of the 19th Biennale of Sydney: You Imagine What You Desire.

Exhibition : La La La Human Steps in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen
The major spring exhibition La La La Human Steps in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen features 100 works of art from the museum's collection. They all deal with la condition humaine: Man’s Fate. Four top choreographers have each created a duet especially for the exhibition. They will be performed live only once and can be seen permanently on film in the centre of the exhibition afterwards.
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is showing its own collection in the Bodon Rooms on a grand scale: from old masters to young talent, from immense installations to small paintings, from unnerving melancholy to entertaining absurdity. "When you look at the collection you see that artists from all ages and from all disciplines have made extremely personal images of the world. These images, you could say, are linked together un... - Exposition
Gallery On The Move presents Yael Bartana’s “Trembling Time” in collaboration with The Promenade Gallery
Gallery On The Move presents Yael Bartana’s “Trembling Time” in collaboration with The Promenade Gallery in Vlora. In “Trembling Time” (2001), the road is full of stationary cars, all facing the same way, the occupants are getting out to stare motionlessly into the distance, where they will be going. Waiting until they can drive on, until they can continue their journey. The traffic starts to flow again, and then stops once more, but the motion is unavoidable. The people are on their way as part of an endless stream. Bartana takes the minute’s silence on the national day of commemoration for fallen Israeli soldiers as the point of departure for examining the effects of collective commemoration and military celebrations on the thinking of the individual. For many ... - Exposition
- Exposition
Che cosa sono le nuvole? Artworks from the Enea Righi Collection
The Museion venue welcomes the Righi Collection, one of the most significant private collections of contemporary art, which to date has only been exhibited at the Collection Lambert in Avignon, France. The arrival of the collection represents an important exhibition opportunity for Museion, thanks to a ten year deposit of works in the museum.
The presentation of a selection of works from the Righi Collection aims to elicit reflections on the encounter between the public dimension and the intimate sphere of a private collection. The artists present in both collections, including Roni Horn (NY, 1955), Jana Sterback (Prague, 1955), Robert Barry (NY, 1936), Alighiero Boetti (Turin 1940 – Rome 1994) and Miroslaw Balka (Warsaw, 1958) represent the numerous convergences of vision between the museum and the private coll...
