Exposition Exhibition : « In Focus : Animalia » at the Getty Museum LOS ANGELES – Animals have never been camera shy – almost since the introduction of the medium in 1839, they have appeared in photographs. While early photographs typically depicted animals that were tame, captive, or dead, modern and contemporary artists have delved into the interdependent relationship between man and beast.
Drawn entirely from the J. Paul Getty Museum’s photographs collection, In Focus: Animalia, on view May 26-October 18, 2015 at the Getty Center, illustrates some of the complex relationships between people and animals. From an intimate studio portrait with dog and owner to the calculated cruelty of inbreeding practices, these photographs offer nuanced views of the animal kingdom.

Exposition William Wegman, "Cubism and Other-isms" Senior & Shopmaker is pleased to announce William Wegman: Cubism and Other –isms, an exhibition of recent photographs in which the artist, with his trademark wry humor, mines art historical precedents to create images of startling beauty.
Beginning in the early ‘90s while making videos and films with his dogs standing in as human characters, the artist placed his subjects on elevated platforms in order to shoot them at eye level. Over the years, props in Wegman’s photographs have taken many forms, but none so consistently as the cube, which in Joan Simon’s catalogue essay for the artist’s 2006 retrospective, Funney/Strange, represents “ an art-about-art reference echoing both the pedestal of traditional sculpture and the Euclidean geometry of Minimalism.” The cube is also ...
Exposition William Wegman - Wegman Outdoors Senior & Shopmaker Gallery is pleased to announce Wegman Outdoors, a survey exhibition of photographs dating from 1981 through 2007. The exhibition will bring together classic Wegman images with rarely exhibited material and surprising new work to reveal the full range of the artist's outdoor color photography. The show will coincide with the opening of William Wegman's new video work, Around the Park, commissioned by the Madison Square Park Conservancy, a narrative film shot entirely in the park and presented on outdoor monitors surrounding the Shake Shack.
The subject of landscape has been a constant theme in Wegman's painting, drawing, and conceptual photographs of the 1970s. In the early 1980s, the artist's approach to photography broadened from the posed studio shots of his canine muse, Man Ray, to outdoor photog...
