« Supermodels – Then and Now » at Camera Work Gallery
The self-curated exhibition shows more than 100 works of the best-known artists and a selection of outstanding fashion portrait and nude photography of the most famous supermodels of the last few decades.
According to Thomas P.Campbell, director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a worldwide successful model needs to be able to inspire the designer and to represent his intention. In this way a model can obtain a special iconic status and her face can become an own brand. In art, the motif of a supermodel has developed into an international scheduled genre which brings up maximum prices in auctions. The CWC Gallery appreciates this development with the group exhibition Supermodels - Then and Now and presents outstanding works of photographic history from the extensive collection of Camera Work AG and partly never seen ... - Exposition

Steven Klein at the Camera Work Contemporary
The exhibition will offer an insight into Klein’s work, featuring photographs from different points in his successful career. Steven Klein has created a unique visual language: Cinematic, surreal and often shocking, his photographic aesthetic is controversial, yet internationally admired.
Since the 1990s, Klein has produced numerous photo series with international stars. Apart from creating the exhibition installation "X-STaTIC PRO=CeSS" with photographs and videos of Madonna, Klein has worked with celebrities like Britney Spears, David Beckham, and recently, Kate Moss and Lady Gaga. The portrayal of these artists, who are famous for their controversial performances and eccentric life styles, seems an apt choice for Steven Klein, whose work has always been prone to provocation. In 2005, Klein crea... - Exposition
FASHION 9 decades of fashion photography
Gallery Camera Work in Berlin presents from September 20th until November 15th an exhibition of fashion photography of the 20th and 21st centuries. This group exhibition provides a representative overview of the development of fashion photography from its beginnings in the 1920s to the present time. With over 250 works of a total of 65 photographers - many of which are vintages - one can trace the different trends of fashion photography.
The spectrum of the photographs on display ranges from the sometimes classic compositions of an Edward Steichen to the experimental photographs of Man Ray, from the sexual revolution to the resulting emancipation of women as shown for example by Helmut Newton, from the cool elegance of the 1990s - influenced by Peter Lindbergh - to the highly imaginative works of a Tim Walker. Fashion in the mirror self-reflection in fashion photography
The international photographers in this exhibition undress the theatre of fashion and question the creation of perfect beauty. Fashion in the Mirror is an overview of their self-examination and a rare look behind-the-scenes of fashion photography from the 1950s to the present day.
Finding both comedy and poetry in the set-up of the studio, the exhibiting photographers turn their cameras on the processes and paraphernalia of the fashion shoot. Photographers become mirrored in their own work and, as viewpoints are inverted and gazes misdirected, cameras stare back out at us expectantly.
Revealing the fashion industry’s secrets and undermining its glamorous illusions, the photographers in this exhibition create work that exposes this world from within.

Steven Klein Photography
The Gallery Camera Work will be presenting selected works by the photographer Steven Klein in its rooms in the Kantstrasse between April 22 and June 10, 2006. The exhibition will focus on the photos for the latest Tom Ford project "Valley of the Dolls" and the "Case Studies #13" with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
Although Klein studied the classical art of painting he became more famous through his inspiring fashion photos. This star photographer, who caused a great stir last year in the Gallery Camera Work with his exhibition "Madonna - X-STaTIC PRO = CeSS", will once again be attending personally.
"Case Study #13" is not simply classical celebrity photography. Steven Klein has compiled a photographic story of the life of an average American family with the actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. We see Jolie and Pit...
