LIANG Weizhou » POST-JIANGNAN
M97 Gallery Shanghai is pleased to present Shanghainese artist LIANG Weizhou’s newest photographs and works on paper as well as unique vintage photographs from the 1980’s and 1990’s in this solo exhibition titled “Post-Jiangnan”. The Shanghainese painter and professor, most known over the past twenty years for his expressionist and surrealist paintings, has been gaining critical acclaim and exposure for his ongoing body of photography-based works. The exhibition begins November 10, and M97 Gallery will hold an opening reception for the artist on Saturday from 4:00 to 6:00pm in the gallery. This will be the artist’s third solo exhibition at the gallery.

LIANG WEIZHOU’s newest photographic works in this solo exhibition titled “A PAINTED PERSPECTIVE”. The Shanghainese painter, most well known over the past fifteen years for his expressionist paintings, has been gaining critical acclaim and exposure for his new body of photography-based works.
Furthering in a long tradition of pictorialist photographers and photo-realistic painters, Liang Weizhou’s photographic works illustrate new possibilities found between painting and photography. As evident in several of his surrealist and expressionist paintings from the early 1990’s, Liang Weizhou has regularly explored the visual and conceptual relationship between painting and photography in his personal life and artistic practice. Group Photography Exhibition - PARALLAX
Parallax is the effect whereby the distance between two objects appears to shift when viewed from different vantage points and can help determine an otherwise unknown distance. Following on this concept, the "Parallax" exhibition places together two or more works by each artist from different times in their career. Creating an imaginary sense of distance by juxtaposing photographs of different size, subject matter, and year of creation presents an opportunity for the viewer to see how the artist's focus and technique has developed creatively or conceptually and how the style of their work has changed or remained consistent.
