John Divola (Stephen Cohen Gallery, Los Angeles) - Born in Los Angeles, Divola studied at California State University, Northridge and University of California, Los Angeles. He has taught photography and art at numerous institutions, including California Institute of the Arts, and he is currently a Professor of Art at University of California, Riverside. Since 1975, Divola's work has been featured in more than fifty solo exhibitions in the United States, Japan, Europe, Mexico, and Australia, and has been included in more than 150 exhibitions at The Museum of Modern Art, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Centre Pompidou (Paris). Recent books by Divola include Continuity, Isolated Houses, Dogs Chasing My Car In The Desert, and Three Acts. He works primarily with photography and digital imaging. While he has approached a broad range of subjects he is currently «moving through the landscape looking for evidence of existential desire.»
