Unregistered City - Jiang Pengyi : New series
Unregistered City, an iconic series by Mainland Chinese artist Jiang Pengyi that has recently been completed. Born in Yuanjiang, Hunan province in 1977, Beijing-based Jiang Pengyi graduated from Beijing Institute of Art and Design in 1999. He received the Tierney Fellowship Award in 2009 and recently won the Jury Grand Prize from the Societe Generale Chinese Art Awards 2010 with Unregistered City. Together with artworks of other prized winners and the 22 nominees, Unregistered City was exhibited in Beijing, Shanghai and Taipei. The exhibition is currently being held in Hong Kong from 23 to 30 March at ArtisTree in Taikoo Place

Blindspot Gallery is pleased to present Jiang Pengyi’s Luminant series at Blindspot Gallery in May and to announce our participation in the ASIA ONE section of the Hong Kong International Art Fair this year featuring Jiang’s Unregistered City and latest series.
When Jiang moved from his less developed hometown to the rapidly changing Beijing, the culture shock bred a deep sense of alienation in him amid the bustling city. Such emotion and state of mind are reflected in his photography works. His photographs of city and massive skyscrapers in Unregistered City and Luminant communicate his recurrent themes of excessive urbanization, redevelopment and demolition in major mainland cities, as well as his fear and anxiety caused by these rapid movements.

A departure from Reality III : The Truth Maleonn & Jiang Pengyi
A Departure from Reality III: The Tender Truth features over 30 pieces of photographic artworks from 10 different series by Mainland Chinese artists Maleonn and Jiang Pengyi at both Blindspot Gallery and Blindspot Annex in Hong Kong.
Maleonn is one of the most famous Chinese artists in conceptual photography. Ma’s photographs are filmed both on location and in studio, his previous professional work as a TV commercial director gives a staged quality to both his indoor and outdoor shots. And Ma often participates in his art by incorporating the use of his own facial masks and body parts. His staged photography represents a whimsical world, with total manipulation of space and matters. Jiang Pengyi Solo Exhibition
Born in Huan in 1977, Jiang Pengyi was discovered at the Lianzhou International Photo Festival 2007. With his Two series "All Back to Dust" and "Luminant", he is showing a dreadful for the skycrapers. In "Luminant", skycrapers are the new landmarks in our modern cities. Taken with a large format camera using long exposure times and framed in light boxes to accentuate their brightness, Jiang Pengyi's overexposed buildings seem to warm the viewers about the power of manipulation they carry out. In those multilayered and anonymous metropolises, they embody the frghtening reflect of "the Society of Spectacle".
