Le photographe Jason Larkin rejoint l'agence Institute
Reconnu internationalement pour ses reportages à caractère social et documentaire ainsi que ses portraits, le photographe britannique Jason Larkin mène un travail documentaire sur le continent africain depuis plusieurs années. Il commence en Egypte où il s'intéresse à l’extension et aux constructions de la ville du Caire. Il développe alors une série de travaux sur les enjeux sociaux, économiques et politiques du pays. Intitulée « Cairo Divided », cette première publication a été nommée pour les prix Deutsche Börse et Pictet.

A city built on gold, Johannesburg was founded in 1886 when settlers and immigrants descended on the largest reef of the precious metal ever to be discovered. The area transformed quickly into a mining mecca with the vast and rapid expansion of the city reflecting the increasing global thirst for gold, and helping to fuel a government that changed South Africa for ever. In this incisive and layered series, Jason Larkin explores the social and environmental impact of the vast waste dumps created by Johannesburg’s once powerful gold mining industry. Six billion tonnes of these deposits form the backdrop of South Africa’s largest city with around four hundred thousand people currently living surrounded by six billion tonnes of toxic waste. Brighton Photo Fringe is pleased to present From Here, an open-submission exhibition for photographic artists. Three emerging curators, Chloe Hoare, Max Houghton and Yasmina Reggad, were chosen to work with mentor curator John Gill to select an exhibition from over 4000 images submitted from all corners of the globe. The resulting exhibition, From Here, is a celebration of current photographic practice by the truly diverse and widespread community that makes up Brighton Photo Fringe.
