Exhibition : «Encouable» / «Light Perspectives»
Benrubi Gallery is pleased to announce the first show of photographs in the United States by Swiss-French artist Delphine Burtin. Simon Baker of the Tate Modern has called Burtin's work "seductive and highly intelligent.”
Duchamp's readymades meet Burroughs' cut-ups in Encouble.
Merging photography with collage and construction, Burtin’s art blurs the line between image and sculpture, between intention and, in the artist’s phrase, “accident.” Dynamic geometries, by turns as playful as Paul Klee and somber as Agnes Martin, gloss an illusion of order over images whose fluid forms continually invite and rebuff identification and interpretation. Some subjects are photographed as still lives, their status as objects—indeed, as shapes—undermined by deft choices of ... - Exposition
« Supermodels – Then and Now » at Camera Work Gallery
The self-curated exhibition shows more than 100 works of the best-known artists and a selection of outstanding fashion portrait and nude photography of the most famous supermodels of the last few decades.
According to Thomas P.Campbell, director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a worldwide successful model needs to be able to inspire the designer and to represent his intention. In this way a model can obtain a special iconic status and her face can become an own brand. In art, the motif of a supermodel has developed into an international scheduled genre which brings up maximum prices in auctions. The CWC Gallery appreciates this development with the group exhibition Supermodels - Then and Now and presents outstanding works of photographic history from the extensive collection of Camera Work AG and partly never seen ... - Exposition

Fashion photographers - Fernand Fonssagrives
The Michael Hoppen gallery is delighted to announce an exhibition of work by one of America's foremost fashion photographers Fernand Fonssagrives.
Once the highest paid photographers in the world, he was ambivalent about the acclaim he received in his chosen field, preferring to remain anonymous. Little was written about him, even at the peak of his success. He was linked to the early 'Design Laboratory' classes of Alexey Brodovitch, and was a key member of the close knit group of photographers now celebrated as 'The New York School.
His most memorable work traces the unique partnership he had with his first wife, legendary model Lisa Fonssagrives, a former dancer who went on to marry Irving Penn. A major influence and inspiration to both men, Lisa was responsible for Fonssagrives picking up a camera - she gave him a... - Exposition

FASHION 9 decades of fashion photography
Gallery Camera Work in Berlin presents from September 20th until November 15th an exhibition of fashion photography of the 20th and 21st centuries. This group exhibition provides a representative overview of the development of fashion photography from its beginnings in the 1920s to the present time. With over 250 works of a total of 65 photographers - many of which are vintages - one can trace the different trends of fashion photography.
The spectrum of the photographs on display ranges from the sometimes classic compositions of an Edward Steichen to the experimental photographs of Man Ray, from the sexual revolution to the resulting emancipation of women as shown for example by Helmut Newton, from the cool elegance of the 1990s - influenced by Peter Lindbergh - to the highly imaginative works of a Tim Walker.
