The front section of this issue features essays by Sir David King, Alain de Botton, Alan Sekula, David Buckland, Heike Strelow and Indian activist Vandana Shiva who tackle ecological issues from different perspectives; thus creating a balanced overview of current environmentalism and also discusses how this theme is approached within the art world. The Archive section of this book sheds light on rarely seen color images by photographers from the Farm Security Administration, bearing witness to an extensive investigation into American farming practice of the '30s and '40s. Scope showcases a dynamic contemporary view on the subjects of ecology and sustainability from photographers such as Mary Mattingly, Andreas Gursky, Ellen Kooi and Stuart Franklin, amongst others.
"Portfolio" hosts artists such as Arno Rafael Minkkinen, Not Vital, David Maisel and lastly Sebastiao Salgado who has dedicated his life work to depicting humanity in transition and ecological issues.
