Press Release, Michael Hoppen Gallery - There is a place on earth that can be seen from space like a white splash across the darker skin of the surrounding land. The albino mark looks like something that has been forgotten. There is no green of tree cover. There is no blue of water. There is no brown of soil. It is emptiness. This is the Makgadikgadi Salt Pan, a vast area in the heart of the Kalahari Desert of Botswana. Chloe Sells has been photographing there for the last two years. In her new body of work, Measuring Infinity, Sells interprets the sublime and mysterious nature of this area.Michael Hoppen Gallery 3 Jubilee Place SW3 3TD London Royaume-Uni
To accompany her exhibition ‘Measuring Infinity’ Chloe Sells has made a group of 25 hand painted contact prints to be included in a concurrent online show of the same title. Each of the images is taken in the same Makgadikgadi Salt Pan in Botswana and is then worked over by hand with abstract drawings in various inks and paints, creating jewel-like studies for the larger embellished pieces included in the exhibition. These beautiful contact prints will be available to purchase from the Michael Hoppen Gallery website and will be on display at the gallery for the duration of the show.
