Kahmann Gallery is proud to present our newest and exciting talents: Laura Hospes (1994) - Rogier Houwen (1992) - Bastiaan Woudt (1987)
The photographic journey of Bastiaan Woudt (1987) started the way it does for most photographers: by capturing his loved ones. His passion for the medium made him expand his horizon, and by immersing himself into the world of photobooks and exhibitions, he developed from his early Pictorialist style into something wholly more abstract yet sharp, and with a strong focus for detail. His portraits and nudes transform the subject into from mere humans into unreal (and ideal). Woudt experiments heavily with new methods and cameras to keep on evolving as a photographer and to move towards a complete and unique signature style. He was named one of the biggest talents working today by the prestigious magazine The British Journal of Photography in 2016, furthering his position as a talent on the rise.

Laura Hospes (1994) has been capturing her own self with the camera since the tender age
of 16, out of a need to connect with people. This need has not waned over the years; it has only become more necessary. Hospes’ self portraits are her way of making clear what is inside of her. Her camera consoles and understands her better than anyone else. Photography is her medium to accept and process the many struggles in her life. The resulting images are intense and arresting, as well as being a captivating glimpse inside the world of a young woman dealing with depression and anxiety.
Hospes was named one of the 50 best emerging photographers of 2015 by the international jury for the Lensculture Emerging Talent Awards. Her work has been frequently featured both home and abroad.

Rogier Houwen (1992) studied photography at the HKU. He now lives and works in Amsterdam.

The work of Houwen can be defined as ‘magical realistic’. Whether it’s a landscape, an abstraction, a portrait or a still life, his photographs represent a fantastical observation found within ‘the real world’. When in the course of a magical experience, Houwen carefully captures the intensity of that experience; he is a collector of observations that almost seem unreal but are super real.

Paradoxes, surrealistic thoughts, optical illusions, dreams and questions about our environment are to be found in his photographs. Rogier Houwen’s work is an ode to the miraculous and versatile nature on our planet.
