In long history of figurative arts, shadow has always reminded to something more profound as in some way it confirms the presence of solids matter, taking the place of the projecting object as its sole concretion explains the superintendents. In Olga Czewska’s works the shadow seems independent from its source, being free from nostalgia and feelings of emptiness, conscious of its own essence. The result: immortal and enigmatic shapes, floating in between light and dark as rebel entities, fighting against "reality absolutism", suggesting the existence of a mysterious inverted world. Solid shadows for solid sculptures out of time; originated by a meaningful investigation, looking for a metaphysic entity. The artist shows a cyclic evolution in her creative activity: the autobiographic principle has to be discovered in the development of the lyric, while the growing attention focusses on the signs shevisualizes — like in the series "botshaft - rosso forte" (botshaft deep red), gouache on paper and "h.o.g. piangente" (crying h.o.g.), oil on canvass — characterized by thin blurred profiles that come alive either through shadows or marked by new independent and unexpected "objects". At first sight, said independent expressions reflect a sort of paradigmatic representation of themselves: playing with perspectives and hints and setting free the subject from the imagined object that imposes itself.

The artist duplicates the object showing both its front and back side in the same visual field, as a sort of time overlapping of present and past. This procedure creates an identity crisis, without giving birth to a real investigation. On the contrary, a simultaneous, sculptural epiphany takes place where container and content hide themselves, opening the doors to perception. Olga Czewska (Timmerdorf, Germany), finds the way to express her emotional experiences through her works of art, from a symbolic point of view; making the "World of Shadows" the subject of her drawings, paintings, pictures and sculptures, letting emerge her sanctuary "hog - House of god", a spiritual place explaining an archetype. Actually she lives and works in between Liguria and Hamburg.
