"Feminity, sensuality and desire form the basis of my inspiration as a photographer. However, I have lately come to question the relationships between desire, the image and death. Youth, life, diseases and their injustice are part of everyday life. Due to its location and its history, Venice embodies all these elements."Galerie Basia Embiricos 14, rue des Jardins Saint Paul 75004 Paris France
Alain Zimeray: Elle s'en allait #1, 50 x 60 cm, silver gelatin print
Alain Zimeray, photographer and film-maker, was born in 1954. He grew up in the world of modern art. As an adolescent with a scientific background and a passion for photography, he honed his technique and refined the perceptivity of his vision with his artists and photographers friends. His favourite themes are femininity, bodies, portraits and the sea. Co-author of "Les Dames de la Mer" and "Sentinelle des mers", his quest for a subtle sensuality becomes apparent in all of the themes that he studies and in every one of his numerous exhibitions. His style may be found in the light "sfumato" that shades women's legs or in this heavy atmosphere or granulous black and white where the very substance of the picture, the mist or the grain of the skins all fuse into one. Very recently, Alain Zimeray has produced his first short film, "Elle s’en allait, semblable à la nuit" (And she left, just like the night), a poetic and sombre adaptation on the theme of "Death and the Maiden". The film was made in Venice where the sea seems to merge with the dark and feminine sides of its history.
Alain Zimeray lives and works in Paris.
