In his documentary projects Higley and Haboob Andrew Phelps shows the rise and fall of his hometown Higley. Once surrounded by farmland, the town was increasingly influenced by the rapid growth of the nearby metropolis Phoenix. The boom was followed by degradation due to the consequences of the real estate and financial crisis and severe sandstorms, called “Haboobs”. Bruce Wrighton took his photographs mainly in Binghampton, New York and in some neighboring towns. Documenting his surroundings with a large format camera, he created street views, views of interiors and apartments, bars and diners and notably portraits. His photographs appear like a homage to everyday life. Brandon Thibodeaux’ black and white photographs show life in the Mississippi Delta. His focus is on five mainly African American communities, whose past and present are overshadowed by poverty and racism. Thibodeaux draws our attention to the “tender and yet unwavering human spirit”. From the early 1970’s Herman van den Boom had been photographing traces of the American culture in Europe such as old movie theatres, billboard signs and shopwindows. In 1976, he traveled across the United States for six months, searching for the origins of this Pop imagery. A photographic road movie about the relationship between the United States and Europe.Anzenberger Gallery Absberggasse 27 1100 Vienne Autriche
