Emmanuel Fremin Gallery announces the first solo exhibition for French photographer Carine Magescas. A French transplant living in the US, Carine’s vision is endowed with a placeless, timeless sensibility, creating images of the familiar that speak to the universal, allowing the viewer to absorb dreamy seascapes. Beyond the anecdote, the beach, the surfboards, the lifeguard stands leave place to luminous havens of peace and serenity beautified by the minimalist sophistication of each image.Emmanuel Fremin Gallery 547 West 27th Street, Suite 508 10001 New York États-Unis
Having had access to some of the most iconic beaches in America – on the coast of Northern California and in Montauk, the far east of the Hamptons known as “The End”, Carine photographed the entire series off-season. Fascination with the human story, particularly in its immensity and meekness, paradoxically comes alive when human presence is at its scarcest. The banal suddenly becomes reverie, eyes almost shut, allowing the imagination to take over, the sea breeze giving slight sandy embraces.

The surfers are slivers of elegant darkness, dissolving in the sleekness of the water. Their vertical black silhouettes emerging tend towards the universal. Off-season means quiet, but by no means static – the vast expanses of the beaches in Magescas’s images, rid of all seasonal furor, brings a spontaneous sense of serenity and quiet alignment with the "now".
