Fontana Gallery Lauriergracht 11 1016 RD Amsterdam Pays-Bas
The exhibition ‘Memories of a Blind Photographer’ is a retrospective of Hannes Wallrafen, the highly acclaimed Dutch/German photo artist who lost his eyesight at the height of his career, now 10 years ago. Wallrafen is famous for his staged photography through which he sought to translate time into engineered images. His work can be regarded as personal interpretations of local history: Storytelling at its core.
Wallrafen’s work is included in many art collections across the world, such as the ‘Stedelijk Museum’ and 'Nederlands Fotomuseum'. Fontana Gallery will show a fine selection of his oeuvre, among which the iconic ‘De Schimmel’ that was shot in the pre-Photoshop era and is a demonstration of Wallrafen’s appraised talent and skill. In addition we are specifically proud to premiere works from Hannes’ unseen DDR-series, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall.
