The Lookout Gallery would like to invite you to the solo exhibition of the new project by Przemek Dzienis, which officially inaugurates the artist's cooperation with our gallery.
Przemek Dzienis is one of the most talented Polish photographers of the young generation, known for the sterile and rough aesthetics of his works. Commenting on his I can't speak, I'm sorry series, Magdalena Wróblewska wrote that ‘his photographs record constructions created against the rule of stability and persistence, objects made of unsculptable materials, sometimes arranged into larger systems with the man constituting an integral part.’ In his new project, Falling Up, Przemek Dzienis continues to work with his favourite material - real people. Even though in some frames he deprives them of any expression, allowing them to remain in a state of meditation or thoughtlessness, in one of the works for the first time he invites his audience to emotionally connect with the model. The man’s intent gaze, as blue paint streams down his face, is far from the previous absent, awkward or shy looks.
In the whole series Przemek Dzienis mixes truth with fiction, which is a frequent recourse in the language of contemporary photography. The exhibition will show ten of his photographs with compositions constructed in a studio environment, which often play with the laws of physics. Although previously the photographer preferred to have full control over the image shown in the final frame, he now allows imperfect fragments of the studio reality to creep into his images. Enriched with these new, refreshing elements, the Falling Up project indicates a new stage in the artist's work.
This project was created in cooperation with Leica Camera Poland. All photographs were taken with the Leica S2.
