About Jean-François Lepage
Jean-François Lepage was born in Paris in 1960. Very early on, he began his artistic activities in photography and painting. At the age of 20, Jean-François Lepage created unique image worlds that found wide recognition in both the fashion industry and art scene. His powerful photographs and drawings break with the familiar ideal of beauty. They show people who are fragile and yet strong, who, turned inward, define extraordinary landscapes and spaces. Already at the beginning of his career, his photographic method shaped a new perspective of fashion and people. Time and again, Jean-François Lepage secludes himself in order to devote himself exclusively to his artistic projects such as '109 Anthology' or 'Humans'. His complex work from photographs, drawings and paintings has been shown in many solo and group exhibitions in France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland and the USA. Alongside his extensive artistic activity, his work is regularly published in numerous international magazines such as AnotherMan, All Magazine, Bmm, Common & Sense, Double, Exit Magazine, Grey, GQ, Harper's Bazaar, Italian Amica, Mixte, Numero, Nylon, Purple, Self Service, 7000 magazine, Sleek, Stiletto, Twill, Vogue and Wall Paper. Jean-François Lepage stages his image worlds like miraculous dream sequences. His pictures show another perspective of the common notion of beauty. They subvert and define our understanding of it anew and enable multiple aesthetic connotations. Jean-François Lepage lives and works in Paris.
