Jean françois Lepage #Photographe
Jean-François Lepage was born in Paris in 1960. Very early on, he began his artistic activities in photography and painting. At the age of 20, Jean-François Lepage created unique image worlds that found wide recognition in both the fashion industry and art scene. His powerful photographs and drawings break with the familiar ideal of beauty. They show people who are fragile and yet strong, who, turned inward, define extraordinary landscapes and spaces. Already at the beginning of his career, his photographic method shaped a new perspective of fashion and people.
Time and again, Jean-François Lepage secludes himself in order to devote himself exclusively to his artistic projects such as 109 ANTHOLOGY or HUMANS. His complex work from photographs, drawings and paintings has been shown in many solo and group exhibitions in France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland and the USA. Alongside his extensive artistic activity, his work is regularly published in numerous international magazines such as Amica Italia, Another Man, Haper's Bazaar, Numéro, Purple or Vogue. In addtion, he has designed campaigns for such renowned clients as Christian Dior, Comme des Garçons, Jil Sander, Nina Ricci, Printemps and Shu Uemura.
Jean-François Lepage stages his image worlds like miraculous dream sequences. His pictures show another perspective of the common notion of beauty. They subvert and define our understanding of it anew and enable multiple aesthetic connotations.
Jean-François Lepage lives and works in Paris.
Livre Jean-François Lepage : Modernes - 20 Years Of Contemporary Fashion For its 20th anniversary the French fashion association ANDAM (Association Nationale pour le Développement des Arts de la Mode) is publishing 'Modernes - 20 Years Of Contemporary Fashion'. The book is a comprehensive retrospective of the work of the organization, which has been honoring international fashion talent since 1989, paying special tribute to designers such as Martin Margiela, Viktor & Rolf and Gareth Pugh, whose work has had a significant impact and continues to influence today's fashion. ANDAM gave the French artist Jean-François Lepage free rein to interpret the visions of the association's prize winners photographically. In his two-part essay, he documents the innovations and influences of the prize-winning designers on the industry over the past 20 years. Together with the compositional w...Signature Jean-François Lepage à la Galerie Madé pour la signature de son ouvrage "RECYCLE (PRELUDE)" MERCREDI 6 MAI de 17h à 21h, Jean-François Lepage sera présent à la Galerie Madé pour la signature de sa monographie "Moonlight Zoo".

...Exposition Exhibition: « Recyle (Prelude) » by Jean François Lepage at The Ravestijn Gallery The Ravestijn Gallery is pleased to announce "Recycle (Prelude)" by Jean-Francois Lepage, an evocative new series of deconstructed and metamorphosed photographs from the artist’s image archive. Over the course of his career on the cutting edge of fashion photography, Lepage interrupted his photography by engraving, cutting or drawing on top of his original film. With these interventions in hand, Lepage has now pushed the border of photography further by fastening together disparate images to form a new narrative at once harmonious and unsettling.
Each work in the series depicts a ghost-like dimensionality, with different parts of a photographic story rising to the forefront of the image.

Beyond the usual process of colorizing black and white prints afterwards colour photography established itself from the 1930s onwards first within fashion and advertisement photography and quickly became an essential tool for the mass media and the entertainment industry. Colour used to pertain an adequate tool to describe the world how it could be in our imagination and wishes – colour outlines, accentu...Exposition Jean-François Lepage Exhibition at the CWC Gallery
