Le vainqueur du World Press Photo Contest 2012 vient d'être annoncé ce vendredi 10 février, à 11 heures précises. Samuel Aranda, photo-reporter espagnol de l'agence Corbis en reportage au Yemen pour The New York Times, remporte cette édition avec un cliché poignant et plein de sens, capturé durant les insurrections contre le président Saleh.
L'image montre une femme tenant un proche blessé dans ses bras, dans une mosquée transformée en hôpital de fortune par les manifestants contre le président Saleh.
A 33 ans, c'est une consécration pour cet ancien photographe de l'AFP qui, depuis 2004, couvre les conflits de société à travers le monde. Dès le début du Printemps arabe, Samuel Aranda s'est rendu dans les pays traversant ce moment d'Histoire, dont le Yemen.
Son trophée lui sera remis à Amsterdam le 21 avril prochain, à l’occasion de la cérémonie des récompenses. Avec un chèque de 10 000 euros et du matériel Canon. Le jury a également récompensé 57 autres photographes dans neuf catégories. 24 nationalités représentées et quatre français distingués : Denis Rouvre, Guillaume Herbaut, Rémi Ochlik et Vincent Boisot.
Parmi les images récompensées, notre préférence va aux images de Donald Weber dans une salle d'interrogatoire ukrainienne, à celles de Paolo Woods sur la radio en Haïti, Alex Majoli et ses images de la place Tahrir, Damir Sagolj en Corée du Nord, Guillaume Herbaut et les amazones ukrainiennes, et à Simona Ghizzoni.
