The Old Order And the New: P. H. Emerson And Photography, 1885-1895
Peter Henry Emerson's exquisite photographs had an important influence on later photographers such as Stieglitz and The Photo-secessionists. This book features Emerson's images of the Norfolk Broads and waterways, his photographs capturing the local inhabitants and the unique atmosphere of the region. This exhaustive study of Emerson's work draws on the collections of the Royal Photographic Society Collection at the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television, in Bradford, England, and the National Museum of Photography. Featuring a selection of 65 color plates, as well as thumbnails of the artist's published prints, the book also includes essays discussing Emerson's innovative focus and printing techniques and offers a reinterpretation of his most iconic image, Gathering Water Lilies. Englishman Peter Henry Emerson began taking photographs in 1882 and soon became an outspoken and highly influential Potaotesadvocate for fine art photography. He promoted photographs made without darkroom manipulation, and also wanted the medium to be recognized on its own terms—not as a mechanical imitation of painting. This installation presents a selection of Emerson's lushly beautiful platinum prints and photogravures featuring the English and Irish countryside. Images of villages, rivers, farmers and fishermen capture the picturesque and harmonious coexistence of man with nature. Approximately 25 works on display. IMAGE: Peter Henry Emerson (England, b. It is a great pleasure and honour for us to present such a unique collection of artists that have shaped the development of photography as an art form, says Jens R Jenssen, senior vice president of human resources and leader of the Statoil art programme. The exhibition consists of approximately 180 works of photography, spanning from the 1842 to 2002. With a unique collection of original Irving Penns as a basis, the diversity of the collection is presented in a wide number of small exhibitions within the main concept, says Arnt N Fredheim, curator, the Statoil art programme. Doan Na Champassak's fascination for real craft ship brings him to an endless search for exceptional, nearly antique photo paper. Paper of such great value that it is a museum piece on its own. Doan Na Champassak is one of the happy few that can work with the Fresson family, who have been executing prints in direct charcoal colour since 1952.
The latest series of Doan Na Champassak, has a lot to do with his interest in human beings, it is all about peeping. It consists of an installation of 20 new works, all gelatin silver prints, printed on various vintage and rare photo papers from the 1940's to 1970's. At Artantique this new series will be exhibited for the first time.
