Marvin E. Newman's photographs at Howard Greenberg Gallery
Informed by his training as an artist, Marvin E. Newman is known for his street photography as well as his photojournalism published in LIFE, Look, and Newsweek. He was also a photographer for Sports Illustrated where he produced some of his greatest achievements. Born in 1927 in New York City, Newman was a member of the Photo League of New York and received one of the first master’s degrees in photography from Chicago’s Institute of Design, where he studied with Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind. The exhibition at Howard Greenberg Gallery will focus on many areas of his prolific oeuvre including his filmmaking with Yasuhiro Ishimoto. Exposition : New-York Staff Picks IV
New York – Staff Picks IV, an exhibition of photographs selected by the staff of Howard Greenberg Gallery, will be on view at the Gallery from December 11, 2014, through January 24, 2015.
An eclectic selection of images chosen by the entire gallery staff will include more than 80 well-known and little-known works by Bruce Davidson, Walker Evans, Louis Faurer, William Gedney, Bedrich Grunzweig, Dave Heath, Consuelo Kanaga, James Karales, Saul Leiter, Leon Levinstein, Joel Meyerowitz, Marvin Newman, Ruth Orkin, W. Eugene Smith, Iwao Yamawaki, Weegee, and many others.
