Marco Breuer, né en 1966 à Landshut en Allemagne, est exposé à travers le monde et ses photographies font déjà partie des collections de plusieurs musées (Boston, San Francisco, Cambridge, MoMA de New York, Stuttgart...). Son livre SMTWTFS a été récompensé en 2002 par le Photo-eye Award for Best Photography Book.

Martin Parr, Kathy Ryan, Lesley A. Martin et Tim Barber ont dévoilé lundi les noms des photographes sélectionnés pour participer au festival New York Photo 2008. À l’occasion de cette première édition, qui se tiendra du 14 au 18 mai prochains, le festival a demandé à chacune de ces personnalités de concevoir une exposition qui traduise sa vision personnelle des tendances les plus importantes dans la photographie contemporaine. Yossi Milo Gallery is pleased to present a new exhibition by Marco Breuer. Silent Speed brings together interconnected groups of work that represent Breuer's recent in-depth exploration of the idea of form finding.
Free-flowing shapes loop in and out of photographic color works (ranging in size from 14 by 11 to 30 by 24 inches), Polaroid sequences, small collages, studies for double-pages, and a newsprint tabloid publication. Breuer's shapes hover between silhouettes, logos, human form, and shadows. There is a palpable tension between figure and ground, a precarious balancing between negative and positive space.

The second exhibition in the MIA's new photography series featuring important new work from international artists will present work of German artist Marco Breuer, one of the most innovative photographers working with abstraction today. His experimental approach eschews the camera itself, presenting abstract works created by exposing the surface of light sensitive photographic paper. Breuer's photographs invite viewers to consider: What is a photograph? The exhibition will be on view from February 18 through August 1, 2010, in two parts. For the opening, Breuer will present ten works produced from 2001 to 2009. Then, in mid-March, he will alter the exhibition space by painting the walls black to evoke a darkroom and a space of creativity.
