Exhibition : « Lot for Sale » at the Robert Mann Gallery
Robert Mann Gallery presents new work by Julie Blackmon at the AIPAD Photography Show, on view from April 16 - 19 at the Park Avenue Armory. In her new piece Lot for Sale, Blackmon's muted pastels marry spare scenery and silent figures to create a strikingly unconventional pastoral.
Accompanying Blackmon's work will be a powerful group of images by contemporary Cuban photographers from our current exhibition The Light in Cuban Eyes, rare works by masters including Masahisa Fukase and Minor White, and standout pieces by contemporary artists Cig Harvey and Jeff Brouws. Following our recent announcement of representation of Mike Mandel, we will also be presenting a selection of photographs from the artist's noteworthy series Myself: Timed Exposures. We hope to see you there!

Photographes exposés : Julie Blackmon, Fouad Elkoury, Franck Gérard, Ellen Kooi, Alain Laboile, Julien Magre, Bertien van Manen, Nelli Palomäki, Bernard Plossu, Philippe Schuller, Emmanuel Sougez, Patrick Taberna, Yves Trémorin, Paul Vitez.

Robert Mann Gallery expose à Art Miami 2011

At the Water's edge, at Robert Mann Gallery
From baptisms to beach getaways, the water's edge is a site for transformations. With this threshold as its inspiration, Robert Mann Gallery's summer exhibition At the Water's Edge includes both historical and contemporary images engaged with those recurrent summer traditions of flocking to the water, either manmade or natural, for a much needed respite. It is no wonder then that the shoreline and the swimming pool have provided numerous photographers with inspiration.

Julie Blackmon : Line-up
Julie Blackmon's premiere exhibition at Robert Mann Gallery, Line-Up presents a collection of work recalling classic art historical motifs that are recontextualized with narratives inspired by the artist's own frenzied upbringing. The oldest of nine children and now a mother of three, Blackmon binds her past to her present with a portrait of domesticity depicting a compound of anxiety, ambivalence, and amusement.
Blackmon underscores the chaos inherent in motherhood with a style that acts as both documentation and caricature. These semi-autobiographical anecdotes detail the difficult balance between fantasy and reality, portraying the humorous nature of the latter. Utilizing her own children, siblings, nieces, and nephews, the artist's subjects, rich in character and animation, dominate their settings with ...
