Exhibition : « Experimental Lake » by Guillaume Simoneau
Press release -
The Stephen Bulger Gallery is pleased to present “Experimental Lake” our first solo exhibition of work by Canadian artist Guillaume Simoneau.
Canada’s reputation as a caring country suffered immensely when funding for scientific research, designed to benefit all nations, was cancelled under the last Conservative government. Guillaume Simoneau’s photographs are like signposts in the wilderness. They are not memorial in nature but sing nature’s praises alongside human handiwork.
A fugitive storyline is to be pieced together by us out of the folklore of the moment, wherein the artist and we, his viewers, find ourselves on the cusp and hungry for answers. This compendium of images is unhinged from the moorings of conventional narrative readings. They speak of travel, pilgr... - Exposition
Exposition collective : « Documenter, raconter, mentir »
- Exposition
« THE YOUTH CODE ! » at the Christophe Guye Galerie
Christophe Guye Galerie is proud to announce its upcoming exhibition THE YOUTH CODE!, an exciting group show conceived by Swiss curator Nathalie Herschdorfer, former curator of the Mus ée de l’Elysée in Lausanne, featuring emerging and established international photography artists alike. Circling the theme of youth – the idealisation thereof as well as the difficulties it bares – and the omnipresent images of youth and youth culture created by adults and adolescents alike, THE YOUTH CODE! investigates this prominent phenomenon while suggesting it as an independent contemporary photographic genre. Presenting an intriguing mix of real and imaginary images the exhibition doesn’t try to present a collective portrait of adolescence, but rather brings together the work of various intern... - Exposition
The Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival presents "Love and War" of Guillaume Simoneau at CONTACT Gallery
Love and War is an intimate and unique investigation that reveals the complexity of a young U.S. Army sergeant's love life--before, during, and after her deployment to Iraq. Following his subject Caroline Annandale between the ages of 16 and 25, Montreal-based photographer Guillaume Simoneau documents her transformation through the experience of war and military service as it plays out against her personal world.
The series of images is composed of enigmatic portraits and places of significance for Simoneau, combined with documentation of correspondence through handwritten letters, emails, and text messages. Mimicking the recollection of memories, time collapses as the artist has sequenced the images in a non-chronological order, finding novel and nuanced ways to foreground the changes in Annandale's iden... - Exposition
Singular
The collection of images that make up Singular will explore the theme from the point of view of the creative process of the photo-based artist. Every artist makes crucial decisions at many points in their process that could be reduced to a question of inclusion versus exclusion. The placement of the frame when composing an image, and the selection of images to be presented as a series would be just two simple examples of the many revealed, explained and discussed by this group of fascinating photographic artists....
