La Galerie Paul Frèches est heureuse d’annoncer la première exposition personnelle de Matthew Stone (1982 - ) en France, qui se tiendra du 23 avril au 30 mai et inaugurera une saison tournée vers la scène émergente anglaise : un « London calling » relayé par Florence Ostende dès juin, commissaire de la deuxième « CoExpo ».
À 27 ans, Matthew Stone s’intéresse aux permanences dans l’art, questionnant sa religiosité, s’intéressant à son histoire ainsi qu’à la fabrique de l’image et du produit culturel dans le cadre de performances, au travers d’oeuvres photographiques, réalisées avec sa communauté qu’il réunit régulièrement dans un salon londonien ouvert et intrinsèquement… « optimiste ».
Des événements (rencontres, salon… ) viendront compléter les expositions.
La Galerie Paul Frèches présentera une nouvelle installation photographique et de nouveaux dessins.
L’exposition fera l’objet d’un Cahier bilingue accompagné de contributions critiques.
Galerie Paul Frèches is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of Matthew Stone (1982- ) in France, featuring new works (photographs and drawings) by this young London artist. The exhibition will inaugurate a season focused on the emerging British art scene… From a French point of view!
Through a multi-disciplinary practice that takes in performance and photographic works, Matthew Stone questions the permanencies of Art, its Spirituality and its History down to the very fabric of images as cultural products.
“Interconnected social networks” form a basis for his work: he regularly gathers, guides friends and collaborators, creating open and positive contexts for shared creativity. An “Optimism As Cultural Rebellion” (far from Voltaire’s ingeniousness) that he trusts, could open new fields of creation, a non-elitist process wholly turned towards the art of tomorrow.
