In the project Tree, Myoung Ho Lee photographs solitary trees centered in front of constructed backdrops of white canvas, behind which the tree’s natural surroundings fill the rest of the frame. The subjects of the photographs appear to be paintings or billboards of trees installed in the landscape. Presenting his subject as both part of the environment and artificially separated from it, Lee’s work plays with ideas of scale and perception.
Born in 1975, Myoung Ho Lee lives and works in Seoul, Korea. He was the recipient of Korea’s Photography Critics Award in 2006 and received a grant from the Culture and Art Fund from the Arts Council of Korea in 2007. This will be the artist’s first solo show in the United States.
