We are delighted to present you – being the third highlight of our anniversary year – carefully selected images by Peter Lindbergh.
Born in Lissa, Germany, in 1944 and raised in Duisburg, the artist is one of the great masters of fashion photography. His natural and honest images of famous women turned him into one of the best known and popular photographers of the 20th and 21st century.
Peter Lindbergh started his career at the age of 27. Already his early advertising images are marked by spontaneity, naturalness and a certain naivety. His breakthrough as a fashion photographer came in 1978 when the magazine Stern published Lindbergh's images. Since then his photographs have been published in every major fashion magazine, and world-famous designers have their advertising campaigns realised by him. Lindbergh's images are straightforward; he achieves to turn the goddesses of the world of fashion and movies into human beings, without depriving them of their aura. His vision of feminity is current and timeless, which is the reason why his early images still touch us today. It is always the face, not the fashion that takes centre stage in Lindbergh's images. Also the seeming coincidence of the photographed scenes contributes to the particular appeal of his pictures.
The list of celebrities he photographed is long. It starts with the unforgotten images of the supermodels of the 90ies who partly became famous through Lindbergh in the first place: Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista und Tatjana Patitz. Today he mainly photographs film stars.Camera Work Gallery Kantstraße 149 10623 Berlin Allemagne
