In Phillips' series Divinations, she transfers imagery to original cabinets cards-mounted albumen portraits from the late 1800s. The series is largely about re-incarnating the people in the photographs by reconsidering them, employing the "crystal ball" to look back rather than forward.

Fixed is the work of Phillips' invented character Madge Cameron. An elderly archivist, one day Cameron accidentally moved a photo she was digitizing, resulting in a strangely altered image separated into its color channels. Cameron came to embrace this accident, saying "I came to see the process as a metaphor for what I do as an archivist; each piece becomes a visual cross-reference of itself."

An early pioneer of photography with a long and varied career, Frances Pane's work has sadly fallen victim to the sands of time, and no photographs remain extant. This leaves us with Vanishing Point where we can only imagine how wonderful the photographs would be-if we only had them.
