Primarily photographed in her parents' home in North London over a three-year period, Still Here is a reflection on corporeality and the vulnerability of old age. Documenting the last years of her father’s life, Goldblatt’s mother and father are the cynosures of her lens, which captures them in the most intimate of moments. Bathed in subdued, spectral light and soft shadows, Goldblatt’s subjects appear singly - building upon the narrative of the isolation of the moribund and the ones they leave behind. By focusing on a single element such as the soft filament of her father’s skin in Hinterland or her mother’s delicately crossed legs over the foot of her bed in Red Shoes, time in Goldblatt’s photographs is protracted, and it is through this feeling of languid isolation that the subject of transient existence is pronounced.
