Southern Institute of Technology 133 Tay Street Invercargill Nouvelle-Zélande
One of New Zealand's most celebrated photographers, Ans Westra, is revisiting Southland (Invercargill from 10–14 March and Stewart Island from 17 – 21 March) to reconnect and share memories with locals, which she captured on film throughout her five decade career in New Zealand. Following on from a similar four week road trip to Gisborne (Ruatoria), Bay of Plenty (Ruatoki and Rotorua), Whanganui (Jerusalem) and Kaitaia in February and May 2013, Ans hopes to reconnect with subjects of her earlier photographs, catch up with friends and share memories with locals. On a previous visit to Southland in 1996 Ms Westra undertook an artist residency at the Southland Museum and Art Gallery, and in 1990 spent time as a tutor for a workshop at Southern Art School, Southland Polytechnic. Ms Westra will also meet with students interested in the arts – particularly photography – as well as gathering information to accompany her collection of negatives to be stored in New Zealand’s National Library in Wellington.
Westra’s ‘Full Circle’ exhibition will take place in the Southern Institute of Technology’s Raw Gallery at 25 Don Street, Invercargill, from Monday 10 March – Friday 21 March, 2014 (Westra will be in Invercargill from 10-14 March), and at the Community Hall adjoining Halfmoon Bay School, Oban, Stewart Island from 17 – 21 March, 2014.
